Question about Transcend 8GB SSD, 2.5- Inch, IDE, SLC Hard Drive

1 Answer

My SSD died today. I think. I have a ADATA500 series (s592) SSD drive. It has been installed and operational for about a week. Today i wake up, turn on my computer, and it tells me to insert a boot disk (ohnoes!) I noticed BIOS gives me an option to boot from this drive but Windows doesn't see it for install? Am I right to assume this drive died? Is there another way to check? I'd hate to send back a functional drive.

If you have a bootable drive / CD, use it to access automatic repair. it may be because of a corrupted boot file, preventing it from booting.

SOURCE: Transcend 4 GB PenDrive

This problem may exist on one machine and not on the other. I could open the files on such pen drives on my own machine which is virus free. I think the problem may also be with a machine containg virus.

How to select the best Solid State Drive for your PC or Apple?

Today there are over 150+ manufacturers of Solid State Drives and everyday it becomes more difficult to sort out the hype products from the high quality SSDs.

So how do you select the right SSD for your computer?

Well, in the beginning you can use a tool such as the SSD finder at http://SSDeurope.com, which helps to determine the form factor of the SSD you need and also provides a nice list of all available SSDs for your particular machine.

Secondly, you will need to identify how much capacity you need. 64GB will most likely fit your MAC OS, WIN XP, Vista or Win7 and a couple of files/music and video, but for most users today 128 GB is the right fit.

Prices differ greatly among SSDs, but one rule of the thumb is that higher prices SSDs such as of brands such as Photofast or Runcore, tend to use higher grade flash (grade A,B) whereas cheaper SSDs tend to cut corners by using lower grade flash and compensate failures by leaving spare space for errors on the SSD.

You will need to look for important features such as TRIM and Garbage collection.

Furthermore, some controllers tend to not work well on all systems such as the Jmicron controler. Good results were achieved with Sandforce and Marvel controllers. Our recommendation would be to look out for SF1500, SF1200 based SSDs such as the OCZ Vertex 2, Photofast SFV1 or the Runcore Kylin II. The Photofast G-monster series has also proven to be a top product and feature in-built garbage collection, TRIM support and high sustained reads/writes due to balanced usage of RAM buffer on the drive.

I think my hdd is broken, windows does not recognize it.

I have the same problem. It's too late, I know, Diego, but I found this silly solution that I am posting that might work for others. Plug the Toshiba HDD into another USB Port: (Probably Windows OS retains each stream that it has started, and these streams need to be deleted, in the same sense that some apps won't open the file it has open currently.) I read in another forum that the computers USB ports had been fried after a power surge!
Might work for someone.

Has anyone upgraded an Epson P-5000 hard disk to a larger capacity drive? if so how is it done?

Hard Disk Upgrade Can I upgrade or install a larger hard disk drive in my Viewer?

The P-5000 includes an internal 80GB hard drive which is specifically designed to work with this product. There are no hard drive upgrades available for this product. If you try to install another hard drive, it may damage or adversely affect the operation of the product. This type of damage or operational failure is not covered by the product's warranty.

Waking from sleep mod

Hello
The hinge is a very fragile part of the Macbook. In the hinge goes all the video and sound cables, as well as the backlight power. You can have a hardware problem here with your connectors.
However the sleep mode can also take its time to wake up:
- The hard dive needs to wake its 5400 rpms - The system has to wake - The video has to wake
I would think that a fast internal hard drive, as a SSD drive for example, will wake up much faster.
Hope this helps
