Hello,
as far as I could understand from Dell your PC could be running on Pentium III 800Mhz, 256MB ram and 32GB HDD(minimum). If you need a service manual I can try to get one for you. Let me know.
According to Dell you should be able to upgrade your RAM to 512 and this would give you a big help. I could not find microsoft white paper on that but 512 should be able to run Windows 7 start even if you would have to disable all areo opts. but the best way is to use the requirement advisor from microsoft. Link below. i would suggest:

  • Remove unecessary applications from the startup. (HOW)
  • Clear your temps and unecessary files, suggestion with ccleaner. (WHERE)
  • Schedule monthly disk defrags
Regarding windows XP, if you would like to configure it for better performance
From HERE you can get and install a requirements advisor to backup your choise By using Windows 7 this would be your Gain
I hope this information was useful Regards,

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

THAT'S BECAUSE IT WAS CONFIGURED FOR THE LAPTOP IT WAS INSTALLED FROM.
IF YOU CAN FIGURE A WAY TO GET THE "NO CD" COMPUTER TO READ AS A MASS STORAGE DEVICE YOU MIGHT POSSIBLY GET IT THAT WAY. OR USE AN EXTERNAL CD/DVD DRIVE.

Hello,

After lookng at the base specifacation of this laptop, even if it was upgraded the laptop would not support windows 7. Windows XP would be the latest OS you could install.

DVD-ROM drive reads CDs, but not DVDs Dell x-200

It shouldn't be a driver issue. DVD drives are natively supported by XP. What software do you have installed for playing DVD'? Windows Media Player 11 would be excellent, and it's free from Microsoft. PowerDVD and WinDVD are also good, but you have to buy them.

How to upgrade a Dell Latitude CPX - Intel P3 500-650 laptop

I have a CPX H500GT. To get it to run XP Pro to run right, max out the ram. And get a larger harddrive. Xp uses a substantial amount of space.
