Question about Garden

Open Question

We have a Raynor Aviator Garage Door opener model 3280 RGD 1/2 HP. Recently we have had problems with the door seeming to open itself after it has been closed. On four occasions we have closed the door...watched it go completely closed before pulling out of the driveway, only to come home hours later to find our garage door hanging wide open!

SOURCE: Garage door opens by itself

I had the same porblem on mine , all I did was reset the dip switches to a different code and it works fine . I think the local airplanes were setting it off with the code that I had it on . Good luck !

SOURCE: Liftmaster 1/2 HP Garage Door opener won't open or Close

The shaft on these garage door motors are not direct drive systems. You'll have to open up the box to see what the actual problem is. I have had stuff like this happen where a gear just slipped out of place.

Here is a link for a parts supplier. I don't know your model but it looks like most of the Liftmaster worm screw gears and drive gears are plastic so it's possible that one of them has cracked.

SOURCE: garage door opening/closing problem

Could be a bad wall button or a smashed wire.
Anytime a door opens and/or closes by itself, or remotes work intermitantly I look for a smashed wire between the motor unit and the wall button or a bad wall button.

If the wire is smashed the insulation becomes so thin that power will leak thru the insulation and activate the door or interfere with the remote.

Loosen the staples with a small screwdriver and slide the wire about ½ inch to move any areas of thin insulation away from the staples.

The second thing would be a bad wall button or a remote with a sticking button.
Or a remote in someone’s purse that gets the button pushed by other stuff in the purse.

The test is to disconnect the push button wires at the power unit. If the self operation / interference stops you have located the problem. If you reconnect the wires and disconnect the wire at the wall button this will tell you if the problem is the wire or the button.

Why the door does not close

Most likely problem is your safety sensors. They are located on both sides of the tracks near the ground. They are tricky because the door will open fine but not close. To determine if they are the problem, for craftsman, chaimberlain, liftmaster, raynor pilot or aviator, attempt to close your door with a remote. If the door doesnt close or closes slightly then reverses, the opener lights will flash 10 times. To fix, first clean the lenses, then make sure they are aligned (both have lights that should be on and solid: no flickering, disregard color), then check wiring for bad splices or staples that can pinch the wire. If all else fails, replacement is next. Sometimes the sun can interfere. Usually, this is due to old, weak sensors, which should be replaced as well.

I have the raynor 1245RGD 1/3 HP. Garage Door Opener. The light in the garage used to turn on when I opened the door to the garage. Now it doesn't. I also don't know how to change the time on the clock.

Unplug the opener and remove the bulb. Use a small screwdriver to pry out on the center contact in the light socket. Replace the bulb and plug in the opener.

My liftmaster 3280 opens by itself occasionally. I have tested springs and they test fine.

Change the codes on the remote and of course the lifter itself, sounds as if some one in the neighborhood has programmed the same codes nearby.

If the light in one of the door sensors flashes it means the sensors are not pointed at one another. Tweak them until the light stops flashing.

There should be a small screw about 3 inches up from the bottom. Remove this screw and the cover should slide off.

Door will not open with wall switch or remote

Depending on the type of motor that is used in your garage door opener, it could be something as small as a start capacitor, or potentially a bad motor. Hope this helps

My garage door opener stoped working after a storm.

TRY TO REPROGRAM THE REMOTES TO THE OPENER - THESE UNITS CAN LOSE THE MEMORY DURING STORMS.

I WOULD SUGGEST ADDING A SURGE PROTECTOR AT THE PLUG IN TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO YOUR UNIT IN THE FUTURE.
