New kohler 6.5 hp engine on 27 ton log splitter won't start? Switch on, throttle 1/3 open gas on, has gas. Choke on, which direction?

After attempting to start, pull the plug quickly and see if it is wet from gasoline. If not, it could be a fuel delivery problem. Start with the hose connection at the carb from the gas tank. Pull it off. Gas? Good. No Gas? Something is plugging up flow out of tank or shut off valve.

Some fuels with alcohol in them cause moisture/
condensation/ oxidation within the aluminum bodies of some small carbuetors inhibiting the flow of gas through the jets. There is a chance the carb needs removed and thorougly cleaned if no gas is passing through the carb to the intake.

Also inspect plug for fouling. Fouling is carbon build up shorting the electrode to ground. Clean thoroughly or replace the plug. Before reinstalling, set the spark gap properly with a feeler gage and then ground the metallic threads on the side of the head and pull the rope start. Watch closely for blu spark jumping the gap. DO NOT touch the plug while doing this, it could SHOCK your SOCKS off !!!! If you have a bright spark, that's good. Install plug and tug the rope and see what happens. If you have no spark, you have an ignition problem.

Are you using summer blend or winter blend gasoline in the engine and what is the outdoor temperature. Gasolines are formulated differently nowadays and a summer blend mixture will wreak havoc on a small engine in the winter time as well as winter blend will do the same in the middle of the summer. We now have oxygenated fuels designed for the high performance engines in the automobiles today and some small engines run extremely 'lean' and as a result some starting issues are created as well.

Procedure how to start new mower

Make sure you have the proper amount of oil in the engine
Make sure your new blade is on tightly. Pull spark plug wire off.Check and see if you can turn the blade by hand one complete turn to make sure nothing is holding blade back. Sometimes the factory puts a block under neath for shipping. Replace spark plug wire.
Fill with the proper gasoline
Should be ready to fire up. Push primer bulb three or four times and pull cord and it should run. Sometimes you have to push primer bulb more than they recommend in the book.

Larry - the manual isn't really going to help you get this started. Press the primer bulb - if provided a couple of times to get gasoline into the cylinder. You may hear it squirt - or even see it drip from the carburetor. Try starting. If it didn't, remove the spark plug. Is it wet with gasoline? Is the chamber filled with gasoline fumes (you can slowly pull the starter rope to move the piston up and force the air in the cylinder out to smell for gasoline). It wet, dry it throughly. If there is no gasoline odor, give a brief spray of starting fluid or ether into the spark plug opening - and install a new plug - or the clean old one. Attempt to start again. If it tries to start and sputters, you likely have a fuel delivery issue. Make sure the shut off valve at the bottom of the tank or inline on the fuel line is open. If it is, I suspect that the float in the carburetor or needle valve needs to be cleaned / adjusted or replaced. You may want to have this done for you as there are some very small parts involved and attention to detail when re-assembling will be required. Carburetor rebuild kits are available for most of these engines.

My truck starts most of the time but has failed to turn over twice in 2 dats but then evetually will start..is this a clogged injector or pressure regulator..03 ranger edge

The typical symptom of problems with the injector are, stalling , hesitation and fouling of spark plugs. You should even see the spark plugs wet with gasoline. Otherwise check the status of the spark plug if it needs replacement or even the timing.

Ryobi ss30 weedeater not starting after repair,to the primer bulb

Follow the instructions exactly. If it won't start, take out the spark plug to see if it is wet, or dry. If it is too wet, the motor may be flooded. If it is completely dry, you have to figure out why it's not getting gas. I am assuming you are pressing the bulb the recommended number of times, and that there is gasoline in the bulb, providing some resistance to your pushes with your thumb.

it is normal to see air bubbles in line when pumping the bulb. to make sure what the problem is, try starting several times, remove spark plug. if dry, yes no fuel, remove the carb. if wet, place plug on engine block and look for blue spark. no spark means you need new plug, plug cord or ignition module
