The key on the laptop is for windows 7, not office. When you buy a new laptop now, you get a trial version of office home and student. If you want to continue using that software you would need to purchase a key from a reputable supplier.

The label on the back says "Windows 7", not "Microsoft Office".
So, yes, it will be the "wrong" product-key.

You probably bought the computer within the last 30 to 60 days, and a "trial" version of Microsoft Office was pre-installed. Now that the "trial-period" has ended, you either must:
* stop using the software
* go to any retail store and buy a "full" copy of Microsoft Office
(which may entitle you to install it on up to 3 computers)
* go to any retail store and buy a "license" (probably for 1 computer).

Enter the product-key to convert the "trial" version to a "full" version.

You entered the key for Windows 7, not MS office.
Your key for MS office should be on a small 3" x 4" (or so) card that came with it. Unless all you have is a trial version then that means you have to give Microsoft money before you get a key.
