Question about Dell XPS 400 PC Desktop
It sounds as if your computer is overdure for a darned good clean out inside just for starters.
Invest in a can of compressed air just for this type of job (about $3-5) and I would also invest in some thermal paste as I would also re-seat the CPU fan whilst I was in there.
If you dont feel happy working inside a computer most good computer shops will do the whole thing for around $40-60.
Doing it yourself should only cost about $10-15
I use a soft paintbrush to poke out stubborn dust bunnies but be gentle and dont tug the brush if it gets stuck. I dont use nylon brushes !!!
Once all the dust is loose esp on the fans I take the computer outside to actually blow it out.
The fan noise could well be on the PSU side and quite often does not last much more than a couple of month before it fails.
PSU are quite cheap to replace and again you could probably do this yourself but get one with a larger capacity. If yours is a 300watt supply then go for a 400 watt as it will last much longer.

To get a desktop to last 6 years is quite remarkable. I definitely would not recommend putting any money into it. The new ones are much less money and also cheaper to operate. Joe
