Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Maytag Neptunre dryer model mde9700ayw. Error code e5 dryer will not run. There is continuity across the three thremostats and heating element. The termistor has 14 ohms of resistance. The heater relay has 2 leads, one black and one blue. Both leads I believe should provide 120 volts, the relay is only receiving 120 volts from the input black lead. The blue lead does not have voltage. I checked the blue lead and it has continuity from the heating element. However a red lead goes thru the thermistor and TH3 thermostat to provide power to the blue lead. There is no continuity from the red lead to the TH3 thermostat. Is the problem the main board or is something else wrong?

The error code is not "E5" but "tS" which looks like an "E" without the top bar and "S" instead of 5. The code means the thermistor is shorted or has a very low resistance which is true because you measured a resistance of 14 ohms and the normal resistance at room temperature is around 10000 ohms. Resistance measurement must be done with the thermistor disconnected. If the resistance reads around 10k ohms, then the thermistor wires are likely shorted. Replace the thermistor if you correctly measured 14 ohms resistance. The thermistor is part number 35001191.

Maytag neptune dryer has e5 error code

Hi,
I looked up your model and there is no E5 error code listed in the tech sheet.
Download a copy of your tech sheet here.
files.me.com/appliancejunk/e8bg66
When I search the maytag data base this is the service manual it list for your model number.

If the dryer is running but not heating then the relay on the control, ignitor or thermistor are the most likely causes.

It is a model no mde9700ayw and it stops and gives the code hE

This error means there is an issue with with the heating portion of the dryer. Could be the thermistor, or the element, or the control board. You have to use a multimeter to troubleshoot the problem. You unplug the dryer, disconnect the element and use an ohmmeter to test the element for continuity.

The element should be between 10 and 50 ohms if it's good. The thermistor should be around 10,000 ohms at room temperature and if both check good, replace the control board.

Hope this helps.

I have a Maytag Neptune Dryer that won't heat. we replaced the thermistor and the control board. What else could it be?

First unplug dryer and test your heating element for continuity with a multimeter if it has more than about 30ohms it is bad.Next check for 220v-240v at the heating element with the dryer running (This is not a test for an amateur. If you are not familiar with electricity I would recommend calling a service tech. If you have 220v-240v there and no heat the heating element is most likely bad. If not then trace the wires back to find the open circuit could be a thermostat or the thermal fuse or just a loose wire/bad connection.

Maytag Dyer model # MDE9700AYW wont heat it blows cold air

Ohm out the thermal fuse, if it is ok, then you can ohm out the heating element, be sure to visually check the element as well becqause it could just be shorted out internally giving you a reading, but first and foremost check your voltages be sure you are getting 240 across the outer plug spades and 120 volts from left to common and right to common, unplug this thing before you get into the element area or you could end up with a smokin fro !

Maytag dryer mde9700ayw

I have the same problem--it is the heating element. Bad news is they don't make the part anymore. The solution from maytag.com is to buy a new one and they will reimburse you 15%...not a very good solution considering how much this one cost and the amount of years it has been used.
If you find a place that sells the heating element please post!
