Question about Jenn-Air 30 in. CVG4280 Gas Cooktop

Igniter keeps firing

I just recently installed new burners on both sides of my range. I also removed the knobs and cleaned the range top. After the cleaning my igniter sparks once every minute or so.

The range still operates normally including the igniters...with the exception of the unwanted firing.

Any assitance woudl be appreciated.

Thanks!

i had the same problem with my cvg4280s with the igniter firing on both sides, someone helpfully posted a suggestion of using a hairdryer and this seemed to have worked for now.

The problem resolved on its own. I'm guessing some moisture from my cleaning was the culprit...when the moisture dried the igniter stopped sparking.

Jen-Air Gas range Igniter keeps clicking but not starting fire

01/26/09 My wife decided to give our Jenn-Air a good cleaning. With lot's of soapy warm water she pulled the knobs off and washed under each of them not realizing excess water was now running down the inside of each control knob shaft. The igniter immediately began clicking away as it was being shorted by the conductance of the water now inside of the switch. I had to remove the cover (2-screws) to access the control switches but that is all I needed to do do in order to have clear access. Using her hair dryer it took about 5 minutes of warm air blowing down each of the shafts until the water evaporated and the clicking stopped. Wahla. The old Jenn-Air is back to working order again.

DCS range igniter won't stop

Hey all ... I just had a repairman fix my DCS cooktop that was doing the same thing ... ignitor problem. He replaced it and it's good as new. (Cleaning also did NOT work for me.) It cost me $216 for the repair. If you can find the part, it's pretty easy to replace. Just take off the front knobs (be careful as there is a 'ring' inside the neck of the knob) and unscrew the front. You will need a special screwdriver - looks like a star - but just snip the plastic straps holding the original ignitor in place and put the new one on the same way as the old one. You should be good as new. REMEMBER TO TURN OFF THE BREAKER!!! I can't imagine it would take more than an hour (tops) 'cause it looked pretty easy.

Clicks occur in "low" position instead of "lite" position

Sounds like the switch electric sending unit needs to be Ither cleaned and dry good or replced. It's not hard at all, They are located under the knob switches, you will have to remove the knobs and the top cover, they look like a small square box wit a hole in the middle with two wires on the sides, just unplug the wires and lift the box off the switch rod. cleane them and dry them good and put them back.......that should do it.....Good Luck

Igniter will not turn off once burners are lit.

I've had the same problem for 2 years. Today I removed the four burner tops, the 15/16 inch bolt that holds the burners in place, took everything apart (simple connections underneath), completely cleaned and dried eveything. I also cleaned the 4 knobs and making sure the 4 swiches slide up and down freely then dried everything with a hairdryer. Is now works fine but if the problem comes back, I'll simply unplug the cooktop and light it manually. P.S. I stripped one of the large 5/16 inch bolt that had become weak and brittle. - Try using water or some liquid to loosen the bolts as necessary. Good luck, CHEERS!

Dacor gas range igniter clicking

I did have the same problem after the house keeping people done with cleaning. They used window/surface cleaner. First I asked them not to clean the ignitor with any cleaner. Here is what I did to solve the problem
I took scotch scour pad (one that you use for washing dishes), In dry state I polished ignitor switch. It is abrading the residuals and deposits on the top and polishing it. Don't use any thing more abrasive than that. MAGIC - I don't have any more problem.
