Question about Cricut Expression Cutting Machine

3 Answers

Just took my Cricut machine out of the box, installed blade but nothing is pushing it down to reach the paper when I press the "cut" button. Is something wrong with my machine or is something missing? I am following the directions but the blade is at least half an inch from the paper and not cutting it although it is working otherwise (tracing the design selected). help!

Dial is on Maximum pressure (5) and blade housing is still at least an inch floating above the paper, not making contact with the paper. I belive this is a internal problem with the machine. Should not something press on the top of the blade housing when it is engaged? (when "Cut" button is pressed). If you manually press the top of the blade housing the blade extends. Nothing is pressing the housing down so the blade is not extended out of the housing, and the housing "floats" above the paper.

The first and easiest solution would be to increase the cut pressure. Do this with the "Pressure Dial" found on the left side of the Cricut machine. The blade height may need to be adjusted, particularly if you are trying to cut through thicker stock. Refer to "Adjusting the Blade Height" in the Cricut User Guide. You have the blade housing in wrong. The blade housing goes into the blade housing carrier so that it sits about 1/16th inch above the paper. a common mistake is to put the blade hosing in the wrong place. if you have a viseo that came with the machine check it out or let me know and I will do you a video of where it goes. If you go to www.cricut.com and select the tab using your cricut go to cricut expression 2 and then related videos check the video on the right called quick start and this shows how the blade housing should be inserted. HTH's.

Are you missing something that raises the paper that it is supposed to cut? If you say that the cutter is working fine as per the design but is about half an inch above the paper then it seems to my mind that there should be something to raise the paper. A board or something to bring the paper level in line with the cutter.

My Cricut Explore Air wont cut

If your Cricut machine is not cutting all the way through your material, or is only scoring the material, choose a machine below for specific troubleshooting tips. Fortunately this issue can usually be resolved with basic troubleshooting.

correct cut settings.
  • Remove the blade housing, then remove the blade and ensure that there are not any bits of paper stuck to the blade or lodged inside the blade housing. Ensure that you replace the blade housing correctly into the machine. Once clean, test your cuts again. If the blade and housing are already free from debris, or cleaning it did not help, proceed to 3.
  • Try an arm buoyancy test: gently press down on the black arms that surround the blade housing and then release them. Do they bounce right back up, or do they stick or rub in any way? If they stick or rub, please contact Customer Care through one of the options below for further assistance. If they bounce right back up when released, proceed to 4.
  • Increase the machine pressure settings and try your cuts again. If this does not change the cut result, proceed to 5.
  • Increase blade depth by turning the dial at the top of the blade housing. If this does not change the cut result, proceed to 6.
  • Perform a Hard Reset on the machine. If this does not help, proceed to 7.
  • Check your machine's firmware version. If the firmware is not up to date, perform a Firmware Update using Cricut Craft Room, a Gypsy device, or Cricut Design Studio.
  • Retry your cuts with a new blade housing.
  • If the machine is still not cutting through materials, or is only scoring the paper, please contact Customer Care through one of the options below for further assistance.
  • Forced Firmware Update on the machine through Cricut Sync.
  • Retry your cuts with a new blade housing. If the issue persists, proceed to 8.
  • Attempt a Format and Restore on the machine through Cricut Sync. Please note that this step should only be taken if all other steps have failed to resolve the issue.
  • If this does not resolve the issue, please contact Customer Care through one of the options below for assistance.
  • new blade. If this does not help, proceed to 5.
  • Adjust/increase the Multi-Cut setting in the Cricut Craft Room cut preview screen and retry your cuts. If this does not change the cut result, proceed to 6.
  • Retry a cut using a new blade housing.
  • If the machine is still only scoring or not cutting through the material, please contact Customer Care through one of the options below for assistance.

I have a Cricut expression 2. It turns on but I'm unable to get the home screen to come on. The screen just freezes on Cricut expression 2

    • Turn on the machine, with no cartridge installed. Roll the Speed, Size and Pressure dials all the way down to the lowest possible setting on each.
    • Grab the blade assembly with two fingers and pull the carriage gently all the way to the left. Behind where the carriage usually sits is a red button. Press and hold the button for three to five seconds and release.
    • Go back to the three dials marked Speed, Size and Pressure, and roll each one all the way up and down three or four times.
    • Press the Cut button, then turn off the machine. Let the machine sit for 15 to 20 minutes to clear the memory.
    • Load a cartridge, turn the machine back on and try it out. If you are still experiencing problems, you may have a defective machine. Return it to the manufacturer with the original receipt.

When using a design in Cricut Craft Room, and select cut, my Expression 2 begins, but does not complete, the cut. The arm moves to the paper and then makes a croaking sound and then nothing.

Search cricut.com for support faq go to expression 2 search format and reset. Watch the video on format and reset and do as it says. Calibrate when it's finished. If this doesn't work re download ccr after deleting it from your computer.

    Cricut expressions 2 pressure wheel

You say you have a Cricut expression 2 but you say quote"...of how to reset the machine including the rolling of the dials up and down three times!" The problem I have in sorting your problem is that the Cricut expression 2 does not have wheels which work the speed, pressure and size. If you have an expression version 1 machine then there would be 3 wheels on it to adjust the speed pressure and size. Obviously if you have had the machine for 4 years it is out of warranty and I am not sure just what the person did to "fix" your problem. I do recollect a video on you tube with a similar problem however looking at the video he mentions that once it is fixed the blade housing should bounce up if you push it down, does your housing now do the same as the video. In the video Evan did he mentions at the end that the soldering of these wires may not take the first time so this may be a point to check as he mentions that it was travelling the machine that caused the wires to break in the first place. The youtube.com video I am speaking of is http://youtu.be/n7LJnfPdd08, by Evan Craftman. I am assuming that when you called cricut support you called the UK support line. I often speak with support in the USA being from New Zealand it is an overseas call however I have found them very good. If you are able to I would like to see a video of just what your machine is doing. If you dont want to post it here you could email me flohillrennie@gmail.com.
I do feel very sad that you don't wish to try the Explore as I find it a surpurb machine. I have had my Expression version 1 since early 2009, I have added every Cricut to my family of cricuts and own 3 expression 2's and now an explore. If you had bought a computer 4 years ago and you currently took it to a repair person to get it fixed I am sure their first response would be it would be better to get a new one. Your computer boards appear to be fine maybe you need to take the video to the person who did your fixing as most people who do this sort of work would not understand how the machine runs. I hope this helps and you can get your Cricut working again. If all else fails you may be able to buy a 2nd hand one cheep and have your repair person change the carriages completly.

The cricut blade holder doesn´t go up or down.

My housing was not going up or down. Every time i wanted to make a cut it dragged and cut shapes in half. So when I took it apart I pushed it up and down myself and noticed that it was very difficult. So where you see the coils, I lightly sprayed WD40 (my cricut is out of warranty, I would not advise to take apart if you are still under a warranty). I lightly sprayed until it was easy to move up and down. When your done be sure to wipe any access WD40 that dripped to the bottom. This fixed mine and thank goodness because I was close to pulling out my hair! Hope this helps someone else!

When the cricut is cutting it tears my paper even though the cardstock is good and the machine cannot cut anything intricate. I tried changing the blade, but the same problem still exists

After having the Cricut for many years, I finally figured out how to cut the intricate cuts. Use multi cut 2, speed on med (3) and pressure on 4. I also keep my blade at 4. It takes a lot longer to cut but it cuts out good!

    Cricut not cutting anymore

I was reading lots of forums and tech support pages on how to get my Cricut back online. I went to the store and got the Deep Cutting Blade & Housing and I got two replacement blades for the original housing that came with the Cricut. I also bought a pack of new mats. I replaced the original blade with a new one, used a new mat, and tweaked the depth and speed of my cuts and my little Cricut is whirling again!
