Question about Motorola TalkAbout T5000 2-Way Radio

1 Answer

There is a way to keep the radio from "beeping" after a transmission but i cant find it in the guide as to how to go about turning that feature off(?). The radio is 3-5 years old if that makes a difference. We have had it off in past hunting seasons (to keep from spooking deer) but cant seem to figure it out this year

It should be able to be turned on or off by holding the + (plus) button in while turning on the radio. We could not find the manual directly for the T5000, but here is a link to the T5100 and T5200: http://www.giantintl.com/RadioPDFs/Outdated%20Manuals/T5XXX_User_Manual_E.pdf

We have MotorolaModel SX700 series. When any of them are turned on they just continually beep. What does this mean and how do I turn the beeping off?

This can be a sign of a bad or poorly charged battery. Or you might try reprogramming the radios to shut off any special features, putting the radio back into a very basic mode.
If you need help with programming here is a link to the user guide page, where you can select your model from the pulldown. http://shop.giantintl.com/Manuals.asp

How do I get the noise made after a transmission turned off?

You are talking about the beeps after the transmissions... This is to indicate to the other unit that the TX line is clear. It is the electronic equivalent of say OVER when talking on a one way radio.

I am not aware of any method to remove this feature. Yet.

How do I silence the beeps on this radio

There are two features which cause the radio to make a tone or beep, before or following a transmission: Talk Confirmation Tones (aka Roger Beep) and Call Tones.

On the T6510 radio you would hold in the + (plus) button while turning the radio on, to turn ON the roger beep. To turn it OFF you would hold in the - (minus) button while turning the radio on.

Call Tones are a little more detailed explanation. You can find directions for both in the user guide on page 25: http://www.giantintl.com/ContentManage/manuals/Moto/T65xx.pdf

Two motorola t8550's unable to communicate

1) You did not mention the Qt filter. You might check to see if you have the Qt filter set the same on both radios. This is an additional layer of privacy featured on this radio.

2) Verify you have good working batteries. A bad battery or uncharged battery can cause a no transmit situation.

3) If these do not work, reset your radio back to a basic operation by shutting of the code, Qt filter, call tone, weather alert, Vox/iVox, roger beep, etc. At this point your radio would be operating just on a simple frequency. See if you can communicate with all these special features turned off. If so, slowly add back in the features you desire.

4) If your radios still fails to work and is less than one year old, call the 800 number on the pamphlet, have your serial numbers and radios handy. Your radio if not physically or water damaged is possibly still under warranty.

Most of the time when a set of radios has your problem description, it is the Qt filter, or possible improper use of a special feature such as call tones or iVox. These would be the first things to check.

Best regards.

Make sure that in the set-up, you do not have the feature turned on that makes a beep for each minute in use. This is a common cause.

Check the user guide for details.
