RCA D52W19 52" Rear Projection Television Logo
Anonymous Posted on Oct 12, 2010

The bottom half on the RCA D52W19 has been removed and the Flyback on the Back right corner emits a noticable spark when attempting to turn the television on. Is this a flyback problem? Or is this a sign of something worse? (Not sure if this is the flyback but it looks damned close to the thing emiting the spark. The spark travels from the inside thing to the magnet on the outside. there was also burnt styrofoam between the two.) http://tvrepairworld.com/yahoo_site_admin/assets/images/001.191225408.JPG

This is the flyback. it is not uncommon for this part to be bad and spark. Now it is common if this part is bad then the horizontal output transistor is shorted. this part is located directly in front of the flyback on a large heatsink.

most likely yes. we know for sure the flyback is sparking. if it was in my shop i would replace both. but i would have to mesure or test the component transistor to be sure. but i bet that it is they usally go bad when that happens

I have an RCA 52 inch Model d52w19. It makes a sparking sound when turning on and I can see electricity flowing from what I think is a flyback soldier.

thats a common problem where the flyback will need to be replaced. The RCA repair kit called the 259296 flyback is the correct flyback for your model from www.tvrepairworld.com the flyback comes with installation instructions.

When i turn on the tv 52" rca rear projection the power light goes on and off but it does not turn on.it takes everal attempts before i get picture and sound

Does it make a slight popping or cracking sound ? If so remove the back cover and see if the flyback transformer shows any sign of burning or arcing. It is located on the far rt. hand rear side with a red wire comming out of the top and a black one behind and lower than the red one.

Burn spot and sparks

is it a off white block with a pink wire set going to the 3 picture tubes?then it is the high voltage called a flyback transformer.
the output is 28000 volts.you have to discharge the tubes before replacing the anode caps which are connected to the flyback.
this is a severe shock danger.
do not attempt this without the service manual ,about 35 dollars from rca.

Check 3 capacitors on deflection board where the flyback is but they are located on front of board cp150 2200uf 16v cp111 330uf 35v cp114 220uf 35v Look at top of capacitor cp150 if it looks like it is bubbled on top it is bad so replace all 3.

SPARKING in the REAR!!!!!!!

It sounds like it may be the IHVT, flyback or high voltage transformer. Go to your local RCA service center and purchase it, but if you are not skilled in soldering , I would recommend that you seek a factory authorized service center to properly repair your unit, not only for reliability but first your safety.
