If the BIOS cannot detect the hard disk then it is most likely faulty. To get your Acer operating again, replace the hard drive, install Windows on the new hard drive plus the Acer's device drivers and your programs. You candownload the drivers from the Acer WEB site. Make sure you
select the model of your laptop and the XP or Vista version of the drivers you
that require and it matches the Windows version that is installed on your
laptop. Use this link to get to the Acer support: -
Unless you have a cd for that version of windows in OEM style for xp and any for vista you will be out of luck. If you have another computer with the same OS and have its operating system installation cd, you can use this if it is the same version.
Windows XP needs to be exactly the same thing. Windows XP pro, home and media center are all different. So are Retail, Upgrade and OEM cds. For vista or 7 any disc will work that matches the version type, it will determine the version by the COA.
If you do not have access to any cd/dvds then you can contact Acer for a replacement. www.acer.com
Back up your data. Before formatting your hard drive, it is essential that you back up all of the data you would like to access after the format is completed.
Insert your Windows XP sp2 CD and restart your computer. If you own an Acer laptop, you most likely will be running Windows XP.
Press "enter" when the welcome to setup page appears. Press the F8 key to accept the Windows licensing agreement.
Select your CD drive as your boot device. You will want to boot your computer through the Windows start-up CD instead of booting from your hard drive.
Follow the on-screen prompts and click "yes" when you are asked if you would like to format your C drive. If you click "yes," the formatting process will finish, and you will have successfully formatted your hard drive.
you cannot usually switch installed operating systems from computer to computer like that and still expect windows to boot, but with windows 98 it *might* work.
to install windows 98 on the usb drive, insert and boot from the windows 98 disk like you were to install it on that computer , and then, it should, before it formats any drives, give you a choice of what drive to format.
If you have formatted the hard-Drive you,ve deleted all information from the computer.
your only other option, is to install an operating system ( Windows/Linux ) and check the device manager, to see which drivers need to be downloaded/updated. With Laptops it,s usually VGA ( graphics ) Sound And sometimes LAN/Network drivers.
a recovery cd will have all of this information, and reinstall your original operating system, including authentic product key. so sometimes worth the money.
With what you have done, it seems pretty cut and dry. You hard drive appears to be damaged, which is why your having problems formating/accessing it.
I would recommend running a hard drive test. If you not sure how, I would ask a local repair shop to run a quick test on the hard drive to confirm its bad. Most shop will do this test for free, if you get a hard drive through them. If you wanna go online and get your own hard drive, testing should be less than 30 bucks.
