Question about GE D52GW12 52" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

My GE TV model D52GW12 works fine, but now the color seems to be faded. The greens and reds watching a baseball game are off and the picture. Not sure what to replace or if it is worth it. The picture and itself an tv work fine otherwise.

This projection tv uses 3 small CRT tubes - the faded image you describe is an absolute textbook example of how a tv looks like when the tubes have aged. The only thing you can do is to replace the tubes. This is an quite old tv for which finding new tubes will be extremely difficult and expensive. - around $200 for one.
Since spending over $600 on an old tv doesn't seem reasonable to me you should accept the fact that this tv has reached the end of its life and start saving for a new one.

My picture is in green. The convergence seems to work just fine. Why would my screen be green?

You might have the yellow for video, white, and red for audio (composite connection) plugged into the component plugs green, blue, red for video, white, and red for audio (component connection) somehow combined together on the back of your TV to whatever source your watching.
It should be color to color from your source to your TV.
It's that or only the green plug is plugged in for the component video. Hope this helps.

Try resoldering the flyback transformers connections on the board. Its very common for the flyback pins to develope cracks around the pins which can cause that issue. I would check that first with that model.

Screen fades to blue after 10 mins of viewing. Sony kp-57hw40

This link has the instructions on how to fix this problem and other similar problems. You have nothing to lose, so I recommend that you try it.

http://www.somelifeblog.com/2007/06/sony-projection-tv-red-line-repair.html

This works with the two other colors, blue and green also. Not all models of Sony Projection TVs have the red, green, and blue pots in the same order as the picture that is listed on this link, so you may want to google search for your model's service manual. The service manual can also help you be able to remove the cover for your particular model of TV. I was able to find the service manual for my model, and sure enough, the order of the pots are reversed on mine, so I would have been adjusting the wrong color. Read all of the comments on this link too, because you can find other helpful tips and may even find someone with the same model of TV as you that gives more specific instructions for your model.

You may also find your model's service manual here:
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/index.pl

I hope this helps you!
Fare well. :)

P.S. you can also clean the mirrors and dry dust while you have it open.

Screen projector un aligned

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs.

17 yr. old 35" RCA loses color intermittently. Picture & sound ok

Three guns Red Blue and Green in the picture tube of an old CRT set. If one of the guns goes out it effects that color. Sounds like one of the guns inside of the tube is going out, To costly to replace for such an old antilog set that will have to have a convertor box next month anyway.

Use your input button on your television's remote control.... you should have plugged the wires into the COMP 1 area on the back of your TV.  You will also need to make sure your red and white audio cables are plugged in as well (Five total plugged wires) Press the input button until you see COMP1 at the bottom of the screen... there you will find your picture and sound.

Color fade

use the advanced options page and reset the factor blue and red convergence defaults then do re apply the auto color defaults color at first it seemed very red (which is good because red was the missing factor in the green picture) but after reseting all the color and tints to the normal ranges I then reset the color auto correct again and all seems fine.
