Yeah, Xerox doesn't spare that part. Item Inc offers this part refurb for $350, or $300 if you send them your broken one as exchange. Here's a video of how to replace it. Good luck

Yep, thats about it. Xerox spares almost nothing on that machine except entire units. I looked on E-bay and no scanners, just a few old machines for sale.

How do you fix blank copies on a canon ICD 1320?

A scanners is made up of the following basic hardware: (that is, as long as it is of a CCD design)
1.) The scan head, which contains a lamp (could be a standard fluorescent type, a cold cathode fluorescent type, or xenon type),
2.) Mirrors (two or three depending on manufacturer design),
3.) a lens,
4.) a color filter,
5.) a Charge-Coupled Device (CCD);
6.) a step motor which operates the scan head through the use of a 7.) belt,
8.) gears,
9.) and a stabilizer bar.
10.) the power supply;
11.) control circuitry;
12.) and interface ports (parallel, scsi, usb, or firewire)

Then there is the software driver- necessary for the computer to communicate with the scanner. The common language most scanners use is TWAIN. This driver acts as an interpreter between any software application that supports the TWAIN standard and the scanner; like Adobe Photoshop or Acrobat, and others.

There is also firmware (permanent software programmed into a read only memory chip)

And any additional software that came with the scanner (i.e. scanning utility and an image editing application)

Any of which could necessitate updating.

The other design type of scanner is the CIS- Contact Image Sensor. The hardware difference between this and the former is in the image sensor mechanism. It replaces the CCD scan head altogether. Instead, the CIS uses rows of red, green, and blue L.E.D.s and image sensors (between 300 and 600) that cover the entire width of the scanner glass; so when an image is scanned, the LEDs combine to create a white light and the illuminated image is captured by the row of sensors.

I would surmise, based on the limited info you posted, you may need to replace either the lamp or the entire scan head. But to be sure, you'll need to obtain the service manual for your printer/scanner and go through the troubleshooting procedures to evaluate the condition of the scan head.

The wiper blade is stuck to the print head of my xerox c2424 printer. how do you take the ink cartridge tray out to get to the print head. i have it torn down that far...bonnie

The printhead and wiper could be heated to soften the ink.
Enter Diagnostics by holding the back arrow and "i" button while powering up. Go to the Monitor menu and turn on "All Heaters"
After a few minutes, it should be able to be moved away.

This situation may have broken 2 Camshafts and perhaps even motors. If you continue to get an error 07,010 then buy this kit "C2424-Z2" It may require a technician to install.

I have the message "Unlock scan head" when I turn the screw to the left to unlock it, I get the same message. Is there anything else I should be doing?

If you receive this error even after unlocking the scanhead xerox suggests replacing the scanner assembly. Item Inc offers this part on exchange for much cheaper then xerox. Here's a video to show you how to fix this error/replace the scanner.">

The printer is making a gear clicking sound.

I had exactly the same problem with my OfficeJet 6110 as reported above (i.e. the scan head not knowing where the end-stop is). This is how to fix it (this method worked for me) 1) Lift up the scanner/copier hinged lid. Around the edge of the scan glass are 4 Torx screws. Undo all four screws. 2) Carefully prise the control panel faceplate off. The buttons underneath are on a single panel. Slide this to the left and lift off. 3) Jiggle the lid of the scanner to get it off the main body of the printer. 4) Locate the scan engine motor (top right corner) and remove the two motor retaining screws (one on the left of the motor, the other on the right). 5) Lift out the entire mechanism (rod, drive belt, scan head) and turn over. 6) Thoroughly clean all glass and mirrored areas of the scan head. Also clean the scan lamp on the top of the scan head. Clean the tray inside the scanner (where the scan head travels back and forth). Also clean the inside and outside of the scanner glass pane itself. 7) Refit all parts, using the technique described above, in reverse order. 8) Switch on printer. It should now work OK. Hope this helps, guys.
