Question about LG Televison & Video
Checking the lamp in another working television would be the best way to identify whether it is the ballast or the bulb which is the source of the problem.
Cheers. Thank You.

If Lamp has never been replaced, Lamp will be the problem . Mats has them for $99.00 1-800-628-1118
First check all the Fans make sure they are running,if they are OK,They Ck Big capaciotr on the Ballast board, alot of times when it is the lamp the ballast board has a spark cap on it that looks look a big Diode blue and white it will ark.If Lamp trys to light and Lamp Fan Stops running then Lamp will not light means defective Lamp Fan.

If you want to test the ballast then you are gonna need the schematic which can be downloaded from the link below.
The ballast has two DC out pins accross which you have to measure the voltage and compare it with the voltage in the service manual. Be careul. The ballast output voltages are usually in the range o 500V minimum and upto 1000V in certain models.

I have fixed 100s of DLP projectors and have yet to see a bad ballast, but that does not mean yours couldn't be the first. More than likely from what you have descibed your lamp is bad. They have a limited number of hours, approx 6 to 8 thousand. Sounds like a lot until you do the math. Generally a lamp is done in about 6 years. In addition if your lamp light is flashing you definitely need a lamp.
I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4168009-change_lamp_in_dlp_projection_tv which explains the problem, how to identify the problem and how to remove and change the lamp as well as where to get the new one at the best price for the quality. If you remove the lamp and it is cloudy it is definitely bad. Follow the instructions in my tip and do not touch the lamp with your bare hands.
Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.
