My battery is not holding charge

ensure the battery is well charged allover again
use the right charger and charge for the allocated duration

when you are not using the camera, remove battery from the panel

then if you charge and dont use your battery for a couple of days please charge again before using as it would have decharged to an extent to avoid disappointment.

if the above don't work, the battery might have gone bad and you may need to request for replacement form your vendor

Batteries do not last but a very few pictures. Even rechargeable ones drain very fast

In DSCW7 Camera, you can use NH-AA-DA (Ni-MH) batteries (this is the supplied one) or Alkaline batteries.
With the LCD screen on, you can capture upto 190 minutes when using the supplied Nickel metal hydride batteries.
When using the Alkaline batteries, the life is only for 35 minutes.
This is a normal operation of the Camera.

The actual battery life will vary depending on how the camera is operated and what functions and types of batteries are used; using zoom and flash frequently will shorten the battery charge.

The average recording time of the battery as listed on the packaging will vary due to several different factors, including ambient temperature and the power consumption of the camera. The battery package states the power consumption specification needed to achieve the average recording time. If the camera power consumption is more than the specification on the battery packaging, the average continuous recording time will be lowered.

Also, batteries discharge faster when used in cold weather conditions. In cold environments, it is recommended that batteries be kept in a warm place before using. Sometimes batteries may recover some power if they are warmed up after being in the cold.

When using alkaline batteries, do not mix new batteries with used batteries. Doing so may reduce the battery life.

the best way to increase battery life
1 - full charge
2 -full decharge
this tip so neccessary when you start using your new system at least for 3 time
then in continue (weekly) you have to decharge the battery completly

Nikon Fe meter - warm batteries

If the batteries discharged sufficiently to become very warm in just a few seconds then there's an internal short circuit and the internal circuitry has almost certainly been fried beyond repair. To get warm so fast, those batteries will have shoved some significant current through circuitry designed to handle mere milliamps.

Your camera will be repairable using donor spares, but the repair will cost more than buying another fully functional FE especially when you add on the costs of the CLA (Clean, Lubricate, Adjust) service that it will almost certainly need and the likely need for foam light seal replacement. If you buy another FE it will also most likely need a CLA and seal replacement unless there's proof of it being recently done, but at least you won't have the additional costs of buying a donor FE, stripping it for parts and then doing a heart transplant on it.

On balance, yours is best used as a spares donor; you'll get some of what you spent back if you sell it as a spares/repairs example.

Sorry there's no fix, but I hope that you have still found my reply to be of some use. If so, please rate my answer.

New battery empties too fast while bottom of camera gets warm (below type sticker where DC/DC converter is situated). Might poor internal memory battery be the bugger? Camera otherwise working fine. Thanks...

Hi Herb,

This issue seem to be because of faulty battery. Try to use your camera with a spare battery if you have and observe if this issue still persist. If it does then the issue is with your camera and not with battery. And if it does not then the battery that you have purchased is a faulty one. As you have mentioned that this is a new battery and assuming that all new products have a warranty of one year. So, it gives you the privilege to get it replaced. Please take it back to the shop from where you have purchased it and ask them top get it replaced.

Please let me know if you need more help on this issue.

If this suggestion was any help to you. Please do reply to me.

Have a nice day :)
