If both your clients and your on the same Lan connection ( and I don't think they are on the same LAN NETWORK), you have to add his computer to your workgroup, in the meantime, you have to change one of the two ip addresses so that connection will be possible, otherwise never. If you are not on the same Lan connection, there's no possibility doing this way, you have to use a remote desktop tool like Teamviewer or LogMeIn etc...

If they are connected to a Server, then you have to configure it from the server, or if connected through a Router (You'll need to properly setup the Vlan with the switch/es), then setup from the router.. etc..etc...

If both the computers are connected to the Internet, you better opt for Teamview, with teamviewer you can access everything (don't configure anything during the setup installation) on each other's computer... File sharing, transferring, remote access as you work on that computer..etc..

You can download TeamViewer free from here (click here).

As you know, networking is very complex and it's not so simple to read and follow the steps through instructions without proper understanding of the concepts..

If you need further help, let me know.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

I recently moved from Cable ISP to DSL ISP service. For the DSL service, I was asked to configure my Router to use PPPoE with Dynamic IP addressing. I also provided the router with my username and password...

The reason you have no internet is because the router is specifically for cable. your description contains errors what i think you mean is that you have gone from cable dsl to an adsl, correct me if i am wrong. Basically your modem connected to your router via an ethernet cable and then the router fed the wireless signal to your wireless devices or via ethernet through the 4 ports in the back. With adsl you have a feed from your phone line to an adsl modem so the only way for you to get the dsl router working is to have two ethernet leads connecting to your pc, one from the modem to the pc and one from the pc to the router. You would also need to setup internet sharing on the pc thats connected to both devices.

Either do it that way or buy an adsl router

Setting up a small network using DSL and a DLink router

1.) The setup needs changing
2.) first off the dss-24 is a network switch not a router
3.) all of your pc equipment should be pluged into that device.
4.) chose one port as an uplink to your att modem
I think your problem is that the new modem is only giving out one ip address. So what ever first pc is turned on that is the one that grabs the address.
5.) you will most likly need a router to take the one ip address assigned via att then dole out additional ones. Remember the dss-24 is not a router. It simply connects everyone together. Each device still needs an ip address given from somewhere. Your old cable modem probibly did that but your new att dsl most likly does not.hence the new router will do that.....
to set it up do the following
2.) Find out the ip setup needed for your dsl service
A.) gateway ip
B.) primary & secondary dns server ip`s
C.) subnet mask
3.) get into the setup of your new router and then plugg in
all of these values using a fixed if address in the router
4.) connect routers wan port to one of the modems port. u may have to use a cross cable or straight look at the link lites to find out if they are talking to each other
5.) make sure that the routers lan side is setup for DHCP
6.) connect one lan port off the router to an uplink
of the dss-24. Then reboot everything
7.) viola it should all work internet on evey machine and file sharring.

How do i connect my verizon dsl westell 6100 to my belkin g rtr?

Wellll....since it seemed an impossible task, I tried the next best thing.
I bought a wireless adapter for the other pc and voila! they are on the internet, and I am returning the router.

Westell modem + Verizon DSL w/usb = No connection to router.

Share a PPPoE connection without modem

I think the problem is that the modem is not giving enough ip addresses. Try configuring it. Some modems are also a router. This means that it has the capability to provide more ip address so that i can connect more pc.

D-link cant accesed internet 4pc

Most of DSL modems are connected to PC with USB cable...
n if ur server is connected with other pc on lan .. you can use internet sharing option available in winxp.

Following are the steps to enable Internetsharing for other pcs.

How to use Internet Connection Sharing loadTOCNode(2, 'summary'); To use Internet Connection Sharing to share your Internet connection, the host computer must have one network adapter that is configured to connect to the internal network, and one network adapter or modem that is configured to connect to the Internet.

On the host computer loadTOCNode(3, 'summary'); On the host computer, follow these steps to share the Internet connection:
  1. Log on to the host computer as Administrator or as Owner.
  2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Click Network and Internet Connections.
  4. Click Network Connections.
  5. Right-click the connection that you use to connect to the Internet. For example, if you connect to the Internet by using a modem, right-click the connection that you want under Dial-up.
  6. Click Properties.
  7. Click the Advanced tab.
  8. Under Internet Connection Sharing, select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection check box.
  9. If you are sharing a dial-up Internet connection, select the Establish a dial-up connection whenever a computer on my network attempts to access the Internet check box if you want to permit your computer to automatically connect to the Internet.
  10. Click OK. You receive the following message: When Internet Connection Sharing is enabled, your LAN adapter will be set to use IP
address 192.168.0.1. Your computer may lose connectivity with other computers on
your network. If these other computers have static IP addresses, it is a good idea to set them
to obtain their IP addresses automatically. Are you sure you want to enable Internet
    Connection Sharing?
  11. Click Yes.
The connection to the Internet is shared to other computers on the local area network (LAN). The network adapter that is connected to the LAN is configured with a static IP address of 192.168.0.1 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0

let me know if it helps.

best regards,

Hi,

Try the DSL modem directly connected to the PC.No D-Link Router(powered off and disconnected). Verify that the PCcould surf/browse/connect to the Internet. Go to Start, Control Panel,Network Connections, right click Local Area Connection, Properties, scroll down to/highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Properties button.Get the IP Add, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS assigned to the PC(write this down. This will be your WAN/Internet IP settings). Then Disable DHCP of your modem if it has one. OK, close, save or whatever is applicable.

Disconnect the DSL modem from the PC. Connect D-Link Router to PC (wired/LAN) without the modem connected to the router.Go again to Start, Control Panel, Network Connections, right clickLocal Area Connection, Properties, scroll down to/highlight InternetProtocol(TCP/IP), Properties button. Tick "Use the following IPaddress". Enter this IP Add 192.168.0.10, Subnet Mask255.255.255.0,Default Gateway 192.168.0.1 and the DNS from what youhave written down earlier). This will be your LAN IP settings. OK,close, save or whatever is applicable.

Open a browser and log into the D-Link router (192.168.0.1, using "admin" as a username and no password). Do not run Wireless Network Setup Wizard. In WAN/Internet/Modem setting of router enable/check Static IP Add.Usethe IP numbers previously assigned to PC that you have written down asthe router's WAN/Internet/Modem IP settings. OK, close, save orwhatever is applicable. Reboot router. Connect DSL modem to router.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Wired router connection

Hi,

To my knowledge, yes. "dial-up internet" connotes standard modem attached to a computer unlike DSL modems (non USB) that are stand alone. Therefore the dial-up internet modem should be connected to a single computer. That PC then would have to enable its Internet Sharing for others in the network to access the Internet. This is accomplished by hooking all the PCs to a single network using a hub/switch. The router can perform this function (hub), however, all the PCs in the network would have to use for their Default Gateway IP address not that of the router but that of the PC with the dial-up internet modem. Having said that, it would then be necessary to use static IP adds in all the PCs. The built-in firewall and DHCP features of the router would not be necessary.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Paradyne Dsl Modem

Hi, If I understand you right, what you want is to use your Paradyne 6211 modem to share the Internet connection to 2 PCs. One is connected through the USB and the second through Ethernet port. Tried it on a Siemens 4200 and a Prolink Hurricane 9000, both worked and can be done. To be sure, the IP settings of the PC connected via Ethernet was set to manual configuration. In your case try IP 192.168.1.3, Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway 192.168.1.1, DNS Servers - whatever your ISP are using. You of course can try and see if it works in your modem. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards.
