Question about Network Security & Firewall Devices

P2P Blocking Hi, I live in a share accommodation. I am having troubles with my usage; most of it gets used half way through the month. A lot of my housemates have P2P software installed. Is there a way to block any ports via the Gateway? Or can I ask Customer Service to help me out?? I am with Big Pond and use a Motorola SGB900, and a MAC OSX. Thanks to all who helped!!

NAT session table is full

For each connection (TCP or UDP) that your firewall manages to NAT (ie network translate) keeps track on a in memory table. If it gets full means you've too many open connections. This is often the case when using P2P programs such as Torrent, eMule etc.

You can:
1) reduce the connection usage on the P2P application
2) reduce the connection timeout, in order to force the firewall to close stalled connections, recovering some free entry on the nat table
3) upgrade the appliance to something more heavy duty. Any box running pfSense for example could be a good choice: the web GUI is quite similar to the ZyWall one, but the software is both free and more powerful...

You can go to facebook by using proxy servers if your domain didn't block them to.

Type online proxy in google and you will get loads of them if the two above don't work

Look into http://www.acevpn.com/ for $5 per month. I would caution accessing Social Networking and File Sharing sites once they are banned by employers, and attempting to find a workaround and accessing them anyways can be grounds for dismissal.
  1. One plan and one low fixed price - $5. The same VPN account works on all the supported platforms and devices. We support OpenVPN, PPTP and L2TP
  2. Connect to any VPN gateway servers on our network at no extra cost. We currently have servers in USA and Europe (France, Germany, Netherlands, UK). More servers being added in different countries
  3. Allows access to banned, blocked and censored websites, applications and services. Use VOIP, SIP adapters, Skype, Google Voice, instant messengers like Yahoo, MSN / Windows Live, Google Talk, etc., social networking like MySpace, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, etc., dating or adult sites even if blocked by your Country, ISP, University or Corporate firewall
  4. 100% anonymous, secure and private. Surf the Net without leaving a trace even on public unsecured Wi-Fi / hotpots
  5. Protects your privacy from behavioral ads and data mining websites like Google Ads, Quantcast. Prevent Identity theft

To unbann orkut

if it is banned it must be for good reason. though there are ways to circumvent the security. for doing that lot depends on what kind of firewall -- hardware or software is blocking the aceess. usually port blocking method is used.. though some use higher level protocol block access method too. if you have access to the firewall it may be easy otherwise it require port scanning and finding loopholes... would require to read up a lot on these topics.

Are you doing firmware upgrade? if so your license should not give any error message. If it throws an error you can also reapply the license which you have downloaded from watchgurad.

Limewire firewall

Hi amy_maguires

If you have recently got a new router, there would be a firewall on the router blocking the required ports for LimeWire to operate. To get around this, refer to your Router's user manual and find out how to access it and then unblock those certain ports. PLEASE NOTE: Do not attempt to unblock all the ports as this will increase the risk of getting your router and perhaps your computers infected with viruses.

If that is not your problem, you may be using and ISP (Internet Service Provider) that has blocked those ports as downloading music uses a lot of bandwidth which is a burden on them. If you have Satelite Internet, this is probably the case. You can try and resolve this by contacting your ISP and negotiating a price for them to unplock the port for you.

Please remember to give this solution a FixYa! rating.

Firewall trouble shooting

Restart your computer and immediately start pressing F8
A list should appear, select Safe Mode with Networking
Try Runescape and see if it updates, if it does there is something running n your system that is blocking the conection.
If it cannot update we need to know if you have a router or gateway and it's make and model.

Hi there, I guess the utilysation of the CF depends on different factors. If the ISP had a lot of clients and used to get a lot of surfing then usage of CF is usefull, only one have to update the bypass list time to time. For making them usable for now... one can upgrade their software version, increase their capasity of HDD and ram and optimise the config to make the best usage of them.
