Toshiba Satellite M65-S909 laptop will not...

My Toshiba Satellite M65-S909 laptop will not start when I press the power button, either with the AC supply connected to it or without the AC supply connected to it and just the fully charged battery in it. Previously it used to start with the fully charged battery and without the AC supply connected to it. After that if I connected the AC supply it would light up the power light and also start charging the battery. But of late it simply won't start. Sometimes it starts powering up momentarily with just the fully charged battery in it, but after that it automatically shuts down after just a few seconds. I will appreciate any help to resolve this. The laptop is not in warranty any more.

I had the same thing happen when I was fiddling with the 9092 monitor refresh rate. The video circuit had a few episodes of video switching and the system shut down never to wake again. I figured it was connected to this circuit but I couldn't fix it. I bought a new one but I haven't tried to recreate the problem:-|

My M65 was doing the same thing two months ago. Luckily, I had the presence of mind to purchase an extended warranty when I bought the laptop. I had four or five months left on it when this occurred. So, off to the shop it went. I just got it back (yes, it took nearly two months). The monkeys at the shop "tested it" then sent it off to Toshiba for a new mother board where more "testing" commenced before they actually replaced the mobo. I have it back now and it's working like new. The bonus is that my AC plug was starting to get a little loose from normal wear, but that's fixed, of course. :^)

Wish I knew what the problem was, though. If I had to guess, I'd say the BIOS chip or CPU went bad.

Based on the problem you have described it could be one of many issues as to what is causing the problems. I know that answer doesn't help but need to be up front with you and not list all the possible issues. What I can tell you is that our company would be able to diagosis the problem once at our nationwide repair garage. If your interested in using our company check out our company website at www.LaptopGuy.com. Take a look at the testimonal section to see that we do quality work. I

My Toshiba Satellite laptop got really hot and just shut down and won't restart. I took the battery out and put it back in again, but it still won't start. Any suggestions?

I have a similar problem [just to be sure: Toshiba M65-s9092], but with more specifics as to the weird chain of events that happened up till my laptop became a very expensive paperweight:

I was powering it up on battery power, and, when the XP system was fully finished loadingall its little usuals, it immediately went into standby mode all on its own... then REFUSED to do anything else after that; The power button and led were orange, and slowly fading in and out in brightness.

What was weird was that I couldnt even power it OFF from that state- it was 'stuck on standby' [maybe this is a BIG clue as to what went wrong- I HOPE!]. Eventually I pulled the battery to get it to shut off, hoping for a recovery, and now its doing its current mode of functionality (which isnt that impressive):

Its a somewhat heavy plastic box that, when you push the power button, the blue button led lights up, and the power led in front of the latpot lights up.. for about 7 seconds, then shuts back off again. The power supply fan never so much as twitches, nor does the monitor, the HD light, or anything.

Same behavior whether on battery or plug in power. The power source status leds in front also correctly show whether the computer is on plug in power or not, and shows battery state.. with one oddity, that doesnt happen when everything was fine: The battery status light goes out when you are plugged in the moment you push the power button.

Things I have tried:
- on reccomendations, I opened the case [warranty is long expired], and checked out the AC adapter plug and solder points for a loose connection- all fine
- I desoldered the BIOS battery for 36 hours, then reattached it [first time starting up after this reset it acted differently: in that it didnt time out and turn itself off- and I could manually power it down- but only the first time, after that it went back to 'normal']
- removed the RAM and swapped it out with the originals that I upgraded from [maybe it was faulty RAM?] - nogo
- plugged in an external monitor to the VGA plug in the back [maybe faulty video?]- nogo
