Hi, How are the lines positioned? are they equally spaced creating four equal sections or are they close to each other?

That's really interesting because I'm searching for a solution to the same problem and I may have found it. Funny thing is mine is a Samsung lcd tv with the same symptoms, three lines, four equal sections and a bit blurry. They are discussing this problem for the Samsung LN-T5271FX on a site called avsforum. Samsung won't deal with this past a year so people are experimenting a bit and here is some writing from a guy who started experimenting with it:

I've been watching this thread for a long time now looking for a solution to the ghosting and lines on my Samsung LN-T5271FX/XAA. Finally I took it upon myself to find out why my TV was doing this.

Much like Steveo369 "I wish I could have had the capacitor...problem." Well I found what is causing it and unfortunately it's not a cheap fix. $1009.66 fix to be exact, that's $1509.66 minus a $500 core charge ( for a new LCD screen (part# BN07-00484A). Don't forget to add in freight shipping on top of that, another $45-$150.

The problem is not with any of the circuit boards, but is with the LCD screen itself. When looking at the front of the TV, the screen has a fault in the upper left corner ribbon connection. See the photo below:
I ended up taking the entire TV apart to discover this. Please disregard the psychedelic hot pink pencil I used to hold back the cover back, I was using the eraser earlier to poke around and not get shocked. Most new discoveries happen by accident and this was no exception. I happened to pop up the LCD top circuit-board and the picture corrected itself. After some close observations and not finding a clear indication of what was wrong, I came to the conclusion there was defect in the way the screen was made. Much like the capacitor issue everyone else is having.

After reassembling the whole thing, minus a few pieces on purpose, I now have a working TV. The tried and true knocking on the back of the TV worked sometimes, because it dislodged/reconnected whatever connection is bad; so, I just made that particular connection easier to get to. It's fixed for the most part but because the front panel has to be on the TV, the ribbon will always be bend at a weird angle and it will continue to screw up the display. Occasionally I'll have to reach in the back and either just touch or flick the LCD circuit board and the screen corrects itself.

All I ask is that someone with a little more knowledge of LCD TVs look into this and let the rest of us know what really is causing it and how we could fix it permanently. I love the TV, but just don't feel like paying another thousand some-odd dollars to fix it.

There is also a great photo there too. I may start trying this myself if it gets worse.

Thanks for the info and the link, more information than I have been able to find on my own. Interesting about the cable connection, I will have to check it out and let you know how i make out. Interesting that the same issues are occurring on the Samsung models as well. Which brand do we trust in the future?

The Toshiba 46" and 52" LCD Regza TVs use samsung panels... so it's no surprise they develop the same problems... I also fixed my Toshiba by replacing the panel.

Sorry to say my solution ended up being to throw the Samsung TV away.

I bought a Panasonic 60" plasma and I love it. No more Samsung.

Picture is distorted for about 15 minutes after turning TV on. Was eventually clearing up but lately picture never gets completely clear.

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

There are about 10-15 small lines on the top of the screen that go horizontally all the way across. These lines distort the picture up there and it is very distracting...any ideas?

The problem is in the vertical section of the TV. Usually one of the electrolytic caps has gone bad. Easy job if youre experienced with board level component replacement.
A shop should charge under $100 to fix.

KV36XBR400 fragmented picture horizontal overlapping lines

this will continue to degrade, almost any failure that can be affected or temporarily cleared up by hitting the set is caused by bad solder joints.

A good shop should be able to find and fix the bad solder connections for probably a little under $100
if you bring it to them and pick it up.

Green screen with almost horizontal zigzag lines

Is good that you hit it and it reacts, very likely you have loose conections in different places but for the distorted picture you need to check the horizontal driver transformer and flyback after that is corrected you need to check the complete chassis for loose conections.Take your time.Good luck.
