Question about Maytag MDE9700AYW Neptune 174 Electric Dryer

Open Question

MDE9700ayw error code e5. I have checked the heating element, thermostats, and thermistor. One thermostat and thermistor were replaced. We had a clogged vent and believe the high temp caused this issue. After replacing the thermostat and thermistor I am getting an e5 error code. Everything seems fine I have checked the resistance at the thermistor, thermostat and heating element. Could the issue be the control board?

SOURCE: Maytag MDE2400AYW Dryer Heating Elements not staying on

Part number is: 34001073 and it's called Maytag Dryer Heater.

You disconnect it simply by removing the panel around the exhaust pipe (3 screws). Looking at the pipe, connector is just above it on the left side.

Wiring is connected to the dryer walls with series of twist ties so you should free the cable so you can pull it out a bit for easier access.

Now pull really hard and that's it :-)

SOURCE: My maytag neptune front load dryer model #MDE9700AYW shows a T5 code and will not heat.

Check to see if your thermistor is bad by measure the resistance. It should be 10K Ohms at room temperature.
If it's bad, replace it BUT you have to CLEAR to error code.
1. Enter to Service Mode by press CHIME and TEMPERATURE keys for 3 seconds or until 3 beeps are heard.
2. Access Diagnostic Codes by pressing WRINKLE PREVENT. A d will be displayed. Rotate the CYCLE SELECTOR KNOB in either direction to read it.
3. Press SENSOR DRY and TIME keys for 3 seconds to clear it.
4. Power OFF to exit Service Mode
5. Power ON

F25 error code


The "F25" error code means the control board senses the inlet thermistor shorted. The inlet thermistor is a part of the hi-limit thermostat which is located on the heating element box.

My dryers is turning but not heating up to dry clothes. I have checked the breaker box. Still no luck. There are no error codes. What might be the problem?

Here are a few things to check:
ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
Check to make sure you are getting full 220 Volt power to the dryer, if you are then:
Check your Wiring
Often the main wiring connection from the house, at the dryer, burns and the connection breaks. If this has happened to your dryer, you need to replace the power cord and the terminal block inside the dryer to which the wire is attached.
Check the Door Switch
If the door switch or the door-switch actuator is defective, the dryer won't work and you need to replace the failed component. The switch is inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. Check for continuity you should have none with door open, and should have a reading when closed. If not replace the door switch.
Check to make sure you heating problem is not a lint build up in the discharge hose or the dryer,as this condition can cause heater/thermistor problems such as overheating of the heating coil leading to failure of the coil and burnout of the thermostat/thermistor due to overheat.
Remove the back/or front just under the door of the machine and try to locate the air duct going from the blower to the drum. Normally inside/outside the air duct you will find the heating coil and the thermostats/thermistors. Once you have located the heating coil, remove the two wires from it and check the coil with an ohm meter across the two terminals of the coil.
You should read continuity across the terminals, if not you will need to replace the coil as it is faulty.
If the heating coil is ok, then:
You can check the thermostat/thermistor one at a time by removing the two wires and taping them together with electrical tape.
If the coil heats up then replace the thermostat/thermistor/thermal fuse as it is faulty.
If you have an ohm meter then you can test the thermostat/thermistor/thermal fuse,
then you do not have to tape the wires together as described above.
To test your thermostat/thermistor/thermal fuseremove the wires from the thermostat/thermistor/thermal fuse and check for continuity, if you DO NOT have continuity then replace the thermostat/thermistor/thermal fuse.
DO NOT LEAVE THE WIRES TAPED TOGETHER AFTER THE TEST AS THIS COULD CAUSE A FIRE BECAUSE YOU HAVE REMOVED THE SAFETY.
Check your blower wheel to make sure it is secure to the shaft and not plugged with lint,socks,etc.
If the thermal fuse overheats the dryer will not operate. It's located on the blower housing. It cannot be reset.
You can test it with an Ohm meter or continuity checker, remove both wires from the thermal fuse and put the test probes to each of the ends of the thermal fuse, if no continuity then replace the thermal fuse.
A vent clogged with lint can cause it to overheat.
Right after replacing a dryer element, always run the dryer on 'air fluff' / 'no heat', and go outside to verify there's plenty of air coming out your vent system.
If the vent's clogged, that new element can burn out very quickly.

It is a model no mde9700ayw and it stops and gives the code hE


This error means there is an issue with with the heating portion of the dryer. Could be the thermistor, or the element, or the control board. You have to use a multimeter to troubleshoot the problem. You unplug the dryer, disconnect the element and use an ohmmeter to test the element for continuity.

The element should be between 10 and 50 ohms if it's good. The thermistor should be around 10,000 ohms at room temperature and if both check good, replace the control board.

I have a Maytag Neptune Dryer that won't heat. we replaced the thermistor and the control board. What else could it be?


First unplug dryer and test your heating element for continuity with a multimeter if it has more than about 30ohms it is bad.Next check for 220v-240v at the heating element with the dryer running (This is not a test for an amateur. If you are not familiar with electricity I would recommend calling a service tech. If you have 220v-240v there and no heat the heating element is most likely bad. If not then trace the wires back to find the open circuit could be a thermostat or the thermal fuse or just a loose wire/bad connection.

F 03 showing on machine


Yes F-03 indicates a faulty thermistor (it's inside the heating element at the back). Before calling an engineer, just open the bottom rear panel and check that the connector has not come loose (OR IN MY CASE FALLEN OFF COMPLETELY). This can happen if there is a spin cycle that runs out of balance big time. (two thin wires on a square unit about 5mm in size fitted to the middle of the heating element).
