Question about Acomdata Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My hard drive was working fine yesterday. Today I turned it on and the light is red and it initially makes a "clicking" noise which eventually stops. But my computer isn't reading the hard drive connected. HELP!

Hi

Please turn off the Hard drive and disconnect it from the computer. Wait for 10 minutes and try connecting it again. If it doesn't work then you'll need to check the control panel-> device manager (or right click on my computer-> hardware tab-> device manager). Check if you are able to see under device manager, if not then check control panel-> administrative tool-> computer mangement-> check if your hard disk is visble over here. If it is visible over here then the data is corrupted and you'll need to reformat the drive to make it usable. Hope this helps... If it does please do not forget to accept the solution or post back for assistance.

The clicking noise is commonly known as the "click of death" on a hard drive. The hard drive is faulty and the clicking noise is the read/write heads clicking back and forth.
The hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

WD ITB harddrive makes noise

From what you've described, it sounds like you have an external drive, rather than an internal. A clicking noise generally emplies hard drive failure, but sometimes the problem could be the actual USB cable. Have that switched and if the problem persists, try running WD's diagnostic software for any fatality. This will only work if the drive is visible in disk management (not necessarily my computer).

Drive NOT being recognized by WinXP

Put your ear to the drive and verify if it is making any strange low level sounds. Check to make sure the usb connection wasnt affected. YOu wont need a driver as it appears to be hardware related. Either the enclosure or drive may be failing.
