Question about HP Scanjet N8460 Flatbed Scanner

Open Question

My HP N8460 has no power. It worked just fine 2 nights ago and now nothing at all. I tried another power cord with the same specs from my HP printer and still nothing. I unplugged it, tried another outlet, rebooted my computer and it still will not turn on. It has a manual power switch on the back and it does nothing when I flip it.

SOURCE: HP 5470c scanner

First of all, use a lamp, fan or something to check your electrical outlets. Make sure they are not on a switched circuit, or a power strip that may be turned off. Try unplugging the cord from the scanner and re-inserting it. I don't know if there is a fuse inside the 5470, but I would bet on it. If all else fails and you feel competent to try it, see if you can disassemble the bottom and look for the fuse. Usually sudden problems like this are really something simple (or catastrophic!! :-) Good luck, John

Yes, any "big-box" computer-store should be able to replace your cable, for $5, if you take the "bad" one to them, for comparison.

What is the temperature at the plug/transformer? If it is cool to the touch after being in the live outlet for a while, that is the source of your problem and it needs to be replaced. You will need to match the plug size and shape as well the voltage for an AC/DC transformer. The voltage is usually on the transformer but can be hard to read (highlight it by rubbing chalk over the lettering if the letters are molded into the case).

I hope this helps.

(I do not know if HP sells replacement transformers; Radio Shack often has suitable ones but you do need to match the details.)

Did you try to scan from ADF or Flatbed glass?

Now as its not copying then it can be hardware issue so we can try to reset the printer and for that

1. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer while the printer is ON

2. Hold and press the # and 6 key at the same time and while holding them plug in the power cord you will say that the printer turns On and there may be reset message on the screen of the printer ..release the buttons

its around 2 minutes process and it will reset your printer

If does not help then please get back to me

Hp p/smart c5280 all lights flashing

Is this your problem:
The power light and about all of the left lights are blinking and there is
nothing on the display screen. Trying to turn off the machine does not work and
results in the same error. "Hard" reboots do not work.

Switch the cords if you have another HP Photosmart printer, even if the
latter one is still working.

I thought of this early but then decided to watse three hours of my life I
will never get back,

Do you have another HP printer with a similar looking power cord?

The cords should go into the back of the printer very easily. I have an HP
C5280 and a newer HP C309 and I just moved. Actually, I have three printers
including an HP 7510. The 7510 and the C309 worked just fine when I set them
up, so I figured they both had to be utilizing the proper cords. But I was
sismaken.

I undid the C309 cord and replugged it and noticed it was hard to put into
that machine, despite that it still printed, just as the one I was using on the
C5280 was difficult to plug in. So I made sure the transformers were basically
the same and switched the cords.

Your first tip that something is awry is if it takes any effort to get the
power cord into the machine in the first place.

Hope this works!

My PSC 2355 is unresponsive, it will not turn off or on though the screen on the printer is on and says HP Invent.

Hi,

Step 1
1. Disconnect the power cord from back of printer ( when the printer is on)
2. Wait for 10 seconds and connect it back
3. Once the printer is up, try to turn off and turn on, it should work.

If this does not work,
Step 2
1. Disconnect the power cord from back of printer ( when the printer is on)
2. Wait for 10 seconds
3. While holding the power and cancel button on printer, connect the cord back.

It should work fine.

On the phone for an hour with those idiots in India, same exact problem. Here is what you do: 1: Unplug AC cord from back 2: Hold down the # and 6 key, plug in the powe cord and continue to hold the kes for 1 minute. 3. Printer will power off durning this time. Release the keys and plug in the power cord. 4. You may need to press the power button on. This will hard reset the printer. It will go throught the initialaztion process and suck your cartridges but should solve the problem. HP SUCKS!
