Question about Kenmore 51262 / 51264 / 51269 Side by Side Refrigerator

Open Question

Freezer and fridge are not getting down to the temps they need to be at. I figure it has to be the control board or the thermostat. Any way to test these items to determine the bad component?

SOURCE: Fridge not working

Speed, If your model number begins with 596. This is made by Amana with the Kenmore name. Look at your defrost thermostat that sits on the evaporator, see if its bulged. If it is it's more than likley your problem. Part number 12001937. Your heaters should be calrod and seldom fail. Advance the refer into defrost by turing the mechanical timer clockwise until you hear it click and see if the heater comes on. Should find the timer under the control panel, should be a slot you can use a screw driver to turn it. If the heaters don't come on you can temp. by pass the bi-metal by simply cutting it out, connecting the wires and putting it into defrost again. However, it must be replaced. This is a safety device. If the heater now comes on, it's your bi-metal. If they don't come on with the bi-metal by passed, check for 120V at the heater connection. If no voltage, its your defrost timer. Careful in there your working with live voltage...Catriver post back.

Hi,
With the problems it is presenting, I would say it's very likely.
However it may take a bit of detective work to find which board is defective.

Check a part suppliers link Here for price comparison so you have some ideas.

Kenmore Coldspot EM5119829. The Freezer works

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp

or..
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

I have to keep the temperature turned up to 9 in order to keep the food at 45 degrees. The fridge is only 3 years old.

If it's the freezer control you keep at 9, it's probably a defrost problem. If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

Bottom freezer temperature rises as high as 35 degrees and drops only to a low of 15 degrees continually. ongoing for a month now. french doors fridge now has temp. fluxes within this past week. temp. goes...

check the defrost thermostat , and any temp sensor that can determine the freezer temperature.
If this fridge temperature is electronically controlled, the freezer control board must also be tested.
