Question about Cabela's Pine Ridge Tactical 17 Riflescopes

2 Answers

I recently purchased a Pine Ridge Big Game Tactical scope from Cabelas. I am unfamilar with scopes as a whole and I NOT SURE HOW TO APPROACH BOTH THE INDIVIDUAL SETTINGS OR HOW TO USE the setting to enable me to shoot out to 500 yards. The instructions thAT CAME WITH the scope are insufficient . At any rate, I need assistance with both part numbers and help with the installation and use. Thanks, Ken.

The comments that were posted were for a 17 caliber rifle. I am hunting for data concerning the Big Game scope 6-18-40 calibered in 30-06 with a 180 grain bullet. Any pictures or installation procedures?

Have a look at Midway USA retailer website for info on basics of installing a scope, also look at the webpage for Leupold as they have good videos that take a lot of guess work out of scope installation. I have the same scope but have not mounted it yet but would make sure you use scope bases that have some windage adjustment (eg, Leupold or Burris, Redfield). That's a good start then use available videos to help you bore sight your scope and lock down your rings.

There isn't much "specific" information I could find on adjusting this scope, but a web blog as some helpful information and reviews that will possibly answer your questions. First of all, notice that the blog states that the scope is good, at best, out to 300 yards, and they report blurriness at most anything over that distance. Here's the blog:
http://www.cabelas.com/fryprod-0/product--Cabelas-Pine-Ridge174-Tactical-17-Riflescopes--720492.uts.shtml
Not good reviews, really, but one fellow seems to have gotten it adjusted for the groundhog at 221 yards, so at least maybe the scope is accurate to that distance.
In the following blog, the last review states that Cabela will take the scope back if you're not 100% satisfied with it, so I guess they will.
At any rate, a lot of people had a lot of problems with this scope, and the reviewers suggested better ones, although a few more bucks.
Maybe it will work for you, but one person complained that the scope wouldn't keep it's adjustment, so it might be a continual battle.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

I dont understand what the extra dial on my new 6-18x44 scope is for or how to use it.Or what range evry line and dot in the reticule should be ranged in at.

The third turret is for parallax and approximate range
And the lines on the reticule are round and velocity specific plus magnification comes into the distances between substension
On my scope 100 yard zero the next substension down is 176 yards at 10 magnification
The best way to use the reticule for ranging is to get a ballistics program and enter rifle round and scope stats and get a chart for that round and reticule
And the drop chart will change for different velocities and ballistic coefficients of rounds and temperatures a summer chart will be different to a winter chart due to denser air in the cold

Which knob you adjust for drop? What is the left knob for?

If you have 2 knobs, there should be no left knob. If you have a knob on the left, you have it mounted 90 degrees out of alignment. Loosen the rings and turn it 90 degrees clockwise. Once you do that, the knob on the top is the one you will use for elevation.

If you have 3 knobs, the left one is for parallax adjustment, focuses the scope for specific ranges. the top knob is the elevation adjustment in this case also.

I just purchased a savage .17 HMR with a cabelas pine ridge 3x9x40 tactical scope and I'm having problems siteing it in. It is shooting aout 4 inches low regadless of adjustments I try and make.

A quick and easy way to bore sight your rifle, if it is bolt action only, or an AR, mount the rifle in a cardboard box with cutouts so it will sit without tipping, remove the bolt and sight down the bore at a target 100 yards away, a mail box, or the corner of a building, make sure the rifle doesn't move, then peek through the scope, it should be seeing the same target your bore is seeing, if not, adjust your scope to it, if it won't travel that far, shim the front with pieces of 35 mm film. then check it again, if you can get it to stay there, it will put your bullet on paper at 100 yards.

I have to use reading glasses to use a simmons blazer rifle scope.....othewise the image is blurry.

You can't see the cross hairs or the whole picture is blurry? I know that the rear ring on the scope will bring the cross hairs into focus, glasses or not, and the scope itself should be clear all the way down, I can't see a thing either without glasses and it has really hampered my shooting. It ain't no fun , it's frustrating. Try turning the rear eyepiece, see what happens, hope this helps.

I have a Pine Ridge scope with moisture inside. Is there any way I can take it apart to clean it, or will I have to buy another one.

it could be striped to dry it out but you realy need to strip it right out so you can also clean all the class in it,,,problem is if you tuch the glass you take off the colour coatings on them, so i would say drop it in at a scope doctors or buy a new one witch may be a lot cheaper that getting yours fixed

Cross hairs canting to the left..how do i recenter the recticle?

From your short description, it sounds like the Horozontal (the ELEVATION) reticle is canted to the left. If that IS the case then do this;
Sand bag the rifle on what you know is a level and firm surface. The rifle MUST be level itself. You can use a small level to determine this.
Without moving the rifle, look through the scope and determine if indeed the horozontal or ELEVATION reticle is indeed canted. The reticle should be LEVEL in relation to the ground and the rifle itself.
If it still appears to be canted, loosen the set screws of the scope ring caps (Not the scope mounts) and while looking through the scope, gently rotate the barrel of the scope clock wise until the Horozontal reticle appears to be now level. Re-tighten the scope ring caps and look through the scope again to make sure the Reticle is still 'level'.
You must now make sure that your scope is still 'zero'd'.

IF the issue is something other than what I have assumed from your description, please send me a msg. with more detail and I will be able to resolve whatever issue you are having. Include the 'Brand and model', plus the power of it, and the brand/model/cal. of the rifle the scope is mounted on.

Good luck. :)
