orignial problem was dead which was resolved when the power supply was replaced. the pdp is what I was thinking a black stripe appeared on the left side but I changed the scan board first to see if it were that but it was not. Yes, I have replaced many display panels in and out of warranty.
    Thanks

If black strip anywhere in picture and boards replaced did not cure it---about only thing left is defective panel----black is bad, if it was a color other than that a board would cause it, I have worked on a lot of these sets under warranty---order all the boards and change and still black band top to bottom= bad PDP-----Plasma Display Panel.

Let me know if you have ever in career replaced a panel--symptom suggests a bad panel.

The panel could have got the power board, If as I have, you have seen this before. We also do LG warranty and extended warranty, very little other than a bad panel will cause your problem.

go under the display settings you probably have it set to native mode which if it was set up for non wide screen televisions will display with black border on the left and the right. You will need to change modes if you want the black to disappear

How do i get a full picture on my secnium hd tv?

Hello

To get the picture full screen come to screen aspect ratio settings.

The Screen Format feature allows you to change how the image of a 4:3 picture

is displayed on your 16:9 screen. The options are Normal, Zoom or Stretch. If

your TV receives an image with a 4:3 aspect ratio, the image can be displayed in

one of three ways:

Normal The image of a 4:3 video signal is centered with black bars on the
right and left sides of the screen

To get ito this setting mode
Enter the main menu and go to preferences select the screen format; option-2; and change the settings to get a full picture.
OK.

Hello Tiangston9.
These plasma TVs have a common failure with the Ysus boards, more specific an IC that is underneath the big heatsink. The capacitors in the power supply became defective as well.

42 inch LG Plasma TV - Lost picture

Our LG 50" plasma tv screen went black after a popping noise but still had sound, after great diliberations decided to take the back off and have a peek!
We unplugged the tv and tested the fuses (there were three we could see) one had blown, the one on the left as you look at the back of the tv it also has one above it. We wrote the code/seriel number down and took the fuse to the electrical wholesalers Maplin and bought a pack of 10 fuses for £1.29 replaced the fuse in the tv and everything now fine!!!!!!
Hope this might be of use to anyone whose lost the picture after a loud popping/snacking noise but still has sound.
