Irish, don't discount the possibility that the ECS motherboard can be a less then nice motherboard. I have seen plenty of problems with them over the years.

Jhacy, I usually would not put myself in the middle of someone else's conversation however I do have one suggestion if you can pull it off. If you have a buddy with a computer who can use your video card for testing, it might tell you what you need to know. In that if the video card worked okay on their motherboard then it would mean most likely that the ECS motherboard was the real culprit in your freezing problems. But of course if the freezing problem went with the video card to the other motherboard, it would seriously indicate a faulty video card. All this assumes that the other motherboard can be configured to use your video card for testing, if not, well, who knows. Just realize that ECS has never produced exceptional motherboards in my experience and they can be quite confusing as to model numbers, bios revisions, etc, etc. Visual inspection of an ECS motherboard sometimes requires extremely good eyes and even good eyes may not be enough.

Try reinstalling the driver for this card. Please visit the manufacturer's website for the latest version of the driver for your OS. You may have mistakenly installed the wrong driver, for the wrong OS.

If that does not work, see if your AGP slot is viable, or try a different slot if available. Should that fail as well, most likely you have a faulty card.

The graphic card usually crashes due to over heating. Keep the gpu cool. you may use a pedestal fan as well.

I have onboard 945 chipset. Can I play Section 8 Prejudice game.

No, the GeForce 9800 GTX required is far more advanced than either Intel Integrated Video or a GeForce FX 5500. To the best of my knowledge, the AGP bus doesn't offer the bandwidth required to run the necessary video cards either.

I bought New GeForce FX 5500 256MB Graphic card,After inserting it in slot. It is getting hanged in the startup of Windows, or some time it is getting hanged at bootup up. not even able to go into safe...

Does your motherboard have an internal video card? if it does, go to system bios and turn it off. it might be a conflict between the internal video card and your AGP card. Lastly, have you uninstall the old video card driver software? before installing your AGP video card. there's a possibility that there's a video driver conflict. If it still doesn't work, it might be a hardware conflict, compatibility or failure.

Good luck,

GEFORCE FX 5500 video quality low, slow motion videos and games

well if your trying to game on a pc the 5500 isnt quite sufficient. If you dont know about nvidia you are about 5 generations back of days cards. So the card wont handle any of todays games. If your really trying to game i suggest you build/buy a new rig. But as far as playing videos, quality should be good. Try goin to nvidia.com and downloading the newest drivers.

Nvidia GeForce FX 5500 / 256MB... Problem

Hi jhacy, I went over all you're posted questions conserning this issue with the FX5500 video card. Please include the manufacture name of you're motherboard & its model number. It is possible the video card is bad (Even if it's new). There are settings in the motherboard bios that me need to be shut off if the motherboard has an integreated video card onboard. It's possible that the AGP slot on you're board is dirty & needs to be cleaned. Please list the name or name's of the games you have tried to run but freeze you're computer or crash you're system.
I will automatically recieve an email from fixya when you post the information I have asked for above. Untill than, take care!

About an old NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 256mb AGP card

Hi Jhacy, there are a few reasons why you're system would freeze when opening a game you want to play.
1. Please check the game requirements needed for PC. You're system must meet the minimal requirements. If you bought this game, the information will be listed on the game box.
If you do not have the box than go to the web site home page for the game & find the minimal requirements needed to play that game. It is not always about the video card. It is also about you're PC system. CPU strength, system memory, size & speed. Operating system, is the operating system updated?
Even over-all system peformance. Run windows system defrag to help you're primary drive re-gain some speed.
2. Make sure you're FX 5500 is using the latest software drivers.

3. Install microsoft directx 9.0c Click this link to download & install.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en

4. Each game will most likely have (Game updates/patches).
Go to the games main web page & download & install any updates and or patches.
5. Lastly, when you first open the game. There should be a section for (Settings). Lower the video settings for the game. Exzample: If you have the video settings set to High, change it/them to low or medium low.
After everything I mentioned above has been run checked, updated & installed & the game still freezes it may be time to call the makers of the game. Every game site has technical support. You can email them with you're troubles trying to play the game. Chances are after doing all the above you may not need to contact the game maker.

Good Luck Jhacy!
Please let me know if this has helped.

Mike
