Deleted all files...but 500 MB still "used"

I deleted all the files on my flashdrive EXCEPT for the LaunchU3.exe file but it still says that I have about 500 MB worth of files taking up space. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem? I've already tried defragmenting it and scanning for errors - but nothing seems to work! :(

Please please help?

Formatting doesnt always work, possibly because the partition is protected ie marked read-only. What you may need to do is use some kinf od partitioning utility and reinitialize the drive with a new table.

I accidentally remove my "LaunchU3"

Are you sure you can't access it anymore?

LaunchU3 is only a quick launch program that comes with Cruzer flash drives. Even if the program is deleted, you should still be able to access your other files. Just go to Start -> Computer and your flash drive should be listed next to your hard drive.

If that doesn't work, then perhaps you deleted other files along with LaunchU3. In that case, you will have to use data recovery software to un-delete the files.

Try this:

Deleted file...how can iget it again?

You can often successfully recover deleted files from a PC, phone or camera memory card or USB Memory stick, it just depends on what's happened since the files were deleted.
When you delete files the data itself isn't deleted, just the index entry that says where the data for those files is located. The space containing the deleted files is also now marked as free space so it is available to the system for any new files to be written there instead.

If and when that happens, then it becomes too late to recover your deleted files so it is very, very important to not save any new files or data to the device concerned.
If the deleted files are on a memory card or USB memory stick, just don't save any new files to it.

One of the easiest ways to see if you can recover deleted files is to try some file recovery software. Recommended asoftech data recovery as it saved my life many times.

Currently my 500 GB WD External Drive has 353GB as free space. But when I try and add a 6GB file I get the following message "Error Copying File or Folder Cannot copy filename: There is not enough free...

How many directory deep is the file going that you are trying to save? I believe the maximum NTFS file (location + name) of file length can not exceed 256 characters total.

Example: C:\user\documents\file.exe is OK

But: C:\user\documents\folder\folder\folder\folder\folder\this folder name 230 charicters long\file.exe BAD

Formating the flashdrive may restore the drive to its full capacity. This will delete the existing files on the flashdrive.

I had a similar problem.  There are hidden files taking up your space.  You can clear this by using disk utilities and clearing the drive. Takes less than five minutes.  Good luck
