When the computer starts, before Windows runs, there is a message saying which key to click if you want to go to the BOIS.
usually it is the "Del" key.

in the BOIS, look for the boot sequence and make sure the DVD is the first one.

which computer do you have?

First you will need the Window 7 operating system cd.
place the cd in the cd room and let the auto run take place. this is not a quick process
it will take several minutes. If the operating system is not loading you may have a different problem

I m lookin for installing dual boot with Vista ultimate n Windows 7, gotta dvd for both, any help??

If you wan to fresh install, here you can do ::
Try following steps.
Restart the PC, Press Delete for some time
It will lead you to BIOS setting
Go to the Boot Priority menu,
select DVD ROM as First Boot and HDD as Second Boot

Now Insert your Operating system CD: Vista Ultimate
Restart the PC and when screen says " Press any key to continue"
hit "enter"
Let the CD load and then select New Installation
Format the drive by pressing L, and then create three partition , 100 GB for Vista Ultimate, 100 GB for Windows 7 and rest for data.
Hit enter and let os Load

After complete OS loading, system will restart and again you will see " Press any key to continue"
DO NOT PRESS ANY KEY.

OS will boot and register it with microsft. create login and then remove OS DVD,

Insert the Windows 7 DVD
restrt the system, Hit enter when it says " enter any key to continue"
select new installation, point to the earlier created partition for windows 7 installation
proceed with same procedure.
after complete installation, when you restart the pc, you will find both the BOOT entries at booting.
do not forget to load device drivers on both the OS.

Enjoy!

I have a dell latitude L400 which has external DVD Rom. I have bought new hard drive and traing to install new window but the sistem sais that The operating sistem is not found. F2 and F12 kis are not...

With a new hard drive you have to first format and install an operating system before it will work. Insert the hard Drive and connect up the DVD, set system BIOS to Boot from removable media IE: The DVD, and insert a Windows setup CD/DVD in the DVD drive, boot of that DVD, and proceed with the install following the instructions. That will install a Windows operating system.

Get insert disc into drive D when the disc is in reads CD;s but not DVD's

Method 1 :

If your drive reads cd's, but not dvd's That indicates that the hardware works fine. You will need to edit the registry inorder to fix this problem.

1) click the start menu
2) click on "run"
3) type "regedit" and click ok
4) go to string key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
5) delete "upper filters" and "lower filters in the right side window.
6) right click my computer in the start menu.
7) click properties
8) go to the hardware tab
9) click device manager
10) expand the dvd/cdrom drives
11) right click the dvd rom and click uninstall
12) restart computer

after restarting, windows should automatically install a clean ROM drive and it should read DVDs just fine if you have the correct DVD decoders.

check if it works fine or else Try Method 2.

Method 2 : Just go the link below

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=&SystemID=INS_PNT_PM_1720

and select the Operating system and double click on "CD/DVD"

and download the firmware updates according to your CD-DVD drive Comapny and installed it.

Most probably it will solve your Problem.

DVD Writer not functioning properly in XP

Hi there.
While you are in XP go to the device manager, look down the list of devices for the DVD rom, click on the + icon next to the DVD rom, right click on the DVD and uninstall it, restart the PC and let windows re-detect the DVD and install it.
I also suggest that you clean the registry, download Ccleaner from here, install it and clean the system and registry.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!
