Question about 3Com Computers & Internet

6 Answers

I have one 3COM 4200 28-port (3C17304A)switch.I can't access the switch through Front port or Console port. Please somebody help me how I communicate the switch. First time this Switch I could communicate through the front ethernet port .I opened the Switch through the WEB Interface. And I changed the IP address. And at that time I tried to change the "27" and "28" port from "UNTAGGED" to "TAGGED". That time I went to the Web Interface bridge data base menu and add the "28" no port and gave the switch own MAC address in the MAC address area. This time I lost communication of the switch. In the 3com website I found for this type of problem need software upgradation ,I download SOFTWARE VERSION 3.05 and I through the serial cable I modified the switch software (t423_05.bin) successfully. After that also the switch is in same condition.

Do an Ip scan on your network, there are many tools out there ( eg. pingtest). you will identify the router and be able to see its new IP address. from there, you may log into it with the web interface( browser). otherwise, post back for a followup

Perhaps you need to reset the switch. There should be a reset button on the back which you should push in for about 10 seconds. Then unplug it and plug the AC line back in. Should restore it to factory settings.

Because you were changing ports, have you checked your internet security firewall? It could be preventing your communication.

Do you have a third party internet security program working on your computer also?
Another thought--have you tried to call tech support for the switch manufacturer? If the switch is fairly new, they should be your first place to call.

Hi,

Are you using any firewall. If so, try disabling it and try to communicate the switch once again. I am sure it might be an issue with the security software.

Thanks and regards,

Do a hard reset. You should find the default username and password at the bottom of the router. You will use that to connect to the router after the hard reset.

I'm assuming that you did a hardware reset to factory defaults and several power cycles to no avail. In that case if even after you flashed a new firmware the switch is inaccessible then it's not a settings problem (because the reflash has wiped everything), the switch itself is defective at a hardware level.
This cannot be fixed, the switch is dead, sorry for the bad news.

Open the case of the switch, find the reset points and join them for one minute - if this doesn't fix it then you will be sure its dead.

My problem is i have all yellow ports flashing in 10 3com 3300 switches in the same time. please help me

  1. Using a Null-Modem Cable , hook up the Console port of the switch to an available COM port on a computer (cable must be able to provide serial port communication between 2 computers).
  2. Set up a Hyperterminal session to that COM port (e.g.: com1), with the port settings at 9600/8/N/1/N (. When the screen comes up blank with a blinking cursor, hit [enter] once or twice to bring up a login prompt.
  3. Alternative to 1 and 2 above, if there is a known assigned TCP/IP address for the switch, one can telnet to that address, hit [enter] once or twice to get the login prompt.
  4. Default logins to try are admin/(no password) or security/security. One of those 2 should bring up the management menu.
  5. To reset factory defaults, type SYSTEM[enter] then type INITIALIZE[enter]. This will reset everything that has been set up on the switch, with the exception of the TCP/IP address, if there is one. All other previous configurations will need to be re-entered.
  6. You can type in username "3comcso" and password "RIP000". It will ask you to reinitialize the switch. This will reset all settings including passwords.

Some of the ports are flashing. some are not

Typically non flashing port lights means that there is nothing connected to those ports and no communication is happening. data movement and communication fires off the lights.

Unplug the Nokia when you want to work on Cameo, or hook directly to Cameo, via Ethernet port.

Routing problem

The last part of the IP address has to be more than 10 apart. That is to say: if your first address is 193.156.36.90 then your second should be 193.156.36.100 or higher or 193.156.36.80 or lower. I like to go for 50 higher or lower then you are well out of the range of your main router.

Wants to reset 3824 3com switch via console

You forget the password for the "admin" user account and can no longer perform important management operations. solution.gif Use the password recovery method outlined below to define a new password for the "admin" user account:
  1. Access the Command Line Interface from the console port and enter the user name "recover" and password "recover" to place the Switch in password recovery mode. The Switch remains in password recovery mode for a maximum of 30 seconds, before it returns to the CLI login prompt.

note.gif You must use the console port to recover the passsword. If you attempt the recovery method using the network, the password will be rejected.

  2. Perform a hard reset on the Switch whilst it is in password recovery mode by switching it off, waiting a few seconds, and switching it on again.

note.gif You cannot use a soft reset operation to reset the password of the "admin" user account. This will end the password recovery procedure and return you to the CLI login prompt.

  3. When the Switch has rebooted following the hard reset enter a new password for the "admin" user account.

The primary connection method for those switches would be serial connection. In the box there should have been a DB9 serial to RJ45 cable. Hyperterminal default settings would allow you to connect.
