E21 - I keep reading about cleaning the filter but....
I keep reading about cleaning out the filter, but my problem is that I having awful time getting the clamps off the hoses. I can only get access from the back (how from the front????). The clamps are hard to reach, take a large amount of force to open and are not facing the best way.
Since it is so hard I don't want to just disassemble all of the hoses.

Your fault code means extended drain time. Clear out the filter connected to the pump and this should correct this issue. This filter is under the outer tub before the drain pump and only accessible from the back of the unit. Good Luck
E21 means a problem with the water draining.
Could be defective: drain pump, pressure switch, wiring, current leak between heating element and ground and finally main board.
Also could be drain filter or drain tube (kinked or clogged) and leaks from water circuit on pressure switch.
Toshiba top load washers have standard error codes. Depending on the display (2 or 3 digits depending on the model) it will either show E21 (or E23) or alternate E2 and -1 (or E2 and -3). Here's a list of most Toshiba washers error codes;
E1: Water doesn't drain in time or not at all
E21: Lid open
E23: Lid not locking
E31: Load imbalance
E32: Check E1 and/or E31
E5: No water coming in
You can try resetting to factory default by following the procedure: Power OFF, then pressing and holding the Super Spin Dry button, press power ON and it should beep 3 times.
The definitive answer depends on the machine model numbers. In Frigidaire, Zanussi, OKO, Electrolux, SMEG and other machines E21 means that there is a drain problem. The repair is carried checking the drain hose at the back and accessing the drain filter (in front at the bottom with most machines from those manufacturers. For some general troubleshooting see : My washing machine does not drain.
Ok you have a front load washer made by Electrolux. Prbably says Fridgedaire.
E21-water not pumping out fast enough.
There could be a clog in the filter or a kinked hose. Check all the hoses and the filters. Some models have inline filters just before the pump. Filters are designed to protect the pump.
