Question about Apple iPod classic MP3 Player

1 Answer

I just bought a 160GB iPod classic, and it makes a weird noise all the time. I looked it up on some forums, found out it was the hard drive turning on and off and that more people have this problem. Could it be harmful that the hard drive is this loud if the ipod functions normally or should I do something about it? Thanks!

A hard drive making loud noises will fail sometime in the near future. I suggest you backup the data on your IPod so when the hard drive fails you can replace it with a new hard drive and restore your data.

Red X on iPod screen, manual reset not working and iTunes not picking up iPod at all. Help!

check to see if your ipod is under warranty, if so take it to an apple store.

if i were you i would manually reset your ipod and immediately after you see the apple logo smack hard on its side on a sofa or padded carpet. If you do it right you will hear the hard drive make a weird noise and then make a clicking sound and your ipod should work

You have nothing to loose, the most apple will do for you is offer you a 10% discount off any new ipod (no matter how damaged the ipod)

Red x of death

The red x means that the hard drive is broken.

The hard drive can be fixed by resetting it by holding the menu and center button, and as soon as you see the apple logo appear on the screen hit it on the side on padded carpet or couch. make sure you hit it on its left side (left in reference to picture above) if it does not work the first time try again except a little harder.

(you are doing this because the arm inside the hard drive that reads the information from the hard drive is stuck in the middle of the drive, and and hitting it on its left side will get it unstuck)

The only thing that you could break normally when you hit the ipod on its side would be the hard drive and because that is not working you have nothing to loose.

IPod Errors

Distinct clicking, right? Your hard drive is about to crash completely. Other than the ticking, your problems are probably because the hard drive is not giving out the information it needs to because it can't. You need either a new Hard drive or a new player. once you get it all of you problems should go away.
