Question about Hitachi 65F59A Television

1 Answer

Sunday night there were electrical problems with the power company. the power into the houses was so low, only the little night lights worked, the power would spike, but go low again before finally going out for approx 7 hours. when this occured i had a football game on the hitachi 65F59A. When power was restored i went to turn on the TV. you hear the familiar click, but nothing comes on, not even the red power button, this tv is plugged into a fancy power strip and our house has a surge protector installed-I have a tv guy coming tomorrow-any ideas?..no warranty so this one is on me...

During power fluctuations any thing could happen to semi conductor devices. Now the problem may be
SMPS components or other processor circuit fault!

Why do my light start flicker off and on at night?

If your lights didn't used to flicker but now they go from
- normal to low - back to normal back to low - in mesured cycles ----> going to be tome for a new alternator. If you drive while using a lot of electrical stuff, major sound system, monitors & dvds, heater, lights etc. --- try looking into replacing yours with a more powerful alternator. (Often) the car companies get cheap on alternators, so they include minimum powered alt. that will work ok so long as you don't add extra equipment and increase the load.

So get your mechanic to confirm that it is your alt. that needs changing, then go from say a 95 amp to a 120 amp. Light flicker problem solved!

That means you have only one live wire running the whole house. If this happens the power sneaks through a 220 volt appliance and feeds the other half of the house but at reduced power (a brown out) This may damage appliances. Reset the main to the house. If it still isn't fixed call the electric company in your region to fix the wires feeding your house

How much money can I save on electricity if I went from a 2000 watt hair dryer down to a 1800 watt hair dryer or even lower?

Well your electric company charges by kilowatt hours. For example, if you run a 100 watt light bulb for 10 hours, that is equal to one kilowatt hour or electricity. So you run your 2000 watt hair dryer for 1 hour that's 2 kilowatt hours (but who ever runs one for one hour?). Now my electric company charges about 11 cents/kilowatt hour, so actually that hair dryer is not using much power at all, so I wouldn't worry. If you want to go down to a lower wattage that would allow you a little leeway with how long the appliance is used but not enough to matter. You can also use the dryer on low or medium to save some money if you would like. The things that use massive amount of power, because they are high wattage and running constantly are microwaves (although they are not always running), air conditioners, dehumidifiers, electric heaters, and even your computer uses more power that your hair dryer will. You should also check out this add I read one time about the things in your house that use energy (actually related to a hair dryer) Hope all this helped!

On off cycling, little air flow, little heat

We had the same problem with the same furnace, CODE 32 DISPLAYED ON THE LEDS. I fixed it by cutting the air inlet pipe and using a hair dryer to supply heated combustion air to the furnace. Once I did that it started to run more and more until it finally heated the house up and works fine, so far so good.

We had a severe drop in temps, sunday it was 40 and rain and that night it dropped to -5 I suspect those conditions contributed to the problem. Wife observed this has never occurred before in 14 years of operation.

Partial Power Outage

This could be very dangerous.

I would first call your electric company and ask if they have any problems with their lines, etc. We recently had this problem at our home and it was in their circuits.

My mother in law had a similar problem and we caught it in time. In her house, several outlets showed extremely low voltage and the others showed extremely high voltage.

It turned out to be a bad neutral connection on the line going from the pole to the house. The electric company fixed it at no charge.

Also, you or someone you know should measure the voltages coming out of your outlets, or call an electrician right away.

You may have a loose circuit breaker or a bad connection somewhere your electrical panel or elsewhere in your neutral line.

This can lead to destruction of your appliances or even a fire, so please don't delay.

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.
