Try freezing the hard drive, and then getting the data off the hard drive while still relatively cold. your hard drive is probably dying.

Try checking your connections. Make sure the usb cable is firmly in the hard drive as well as the pc. Unplug the hard drive, restart the computer and plug it back in. If that does not work I would suggest trying some sort of file recovery/back up software and then calling in the warranty.

I am using Transcend 320 GB external hard disk in a Windows 7 Operating system. It is keep on asking me to format the disk while i plugging in to laptop. Unable to see the contents in the external hard...

guess you are using a USB port to for that.....
1 - check the cable that connects the HD to the USB port...change the cable and verify
2 - connect to another PC and check if it's ok there
3 - bring another ext HD from a friend and try conencting that....check if that's OK
4 - there could be a corruption in the HD that is preventing the PC from reading it

cardinal rule for USB....not a very dependent device specialy if connecting thru USB data cables....
solution
always use a good qty USB data cable compatible with USB2....as some cheap cables are only for USB1

Hi my Transcend 320 GB harddisk is not getting detected. Storejet 320Gb

hello

connect the USB external hard disk to usb port by the way disconnect other working harddisks
available on the system, boot the system with bootable cd/floppy go to command prompt and run
chkdsk on this drive

Also download "mbrfix" connect all working harddisks along with the nondetecting harddisk and run mbrfix for the USB defective harddisk

Try using different USB data transfer cable, if power source adapter is used check for rated power output in multimeter for this adapter, if found defective replace it with new/good adapter with same
specifications

Bad luck if harddisk controller has failed you have to go in for new harddisk

GOOD LUCK ooo

My Transcend StoreJet 320 GB USB 20 Hard Drive is having a problem When i connected the drive to my laptop it got detected for sometime and then disconnected automatically

Probably not the right answer for your problem. Mine is an external 1 TB Simple Drive. Mine wouldn't respond at all. I unplugged the power cable from the back of the hard drive and replugged it in and instantly it worked (with the computer and hard drive plugged in). I had tried rebooting the computer, plugging/unplugging over and over into the computer and that didn't work.

320 GB transcend external Hard dics is not at all detected

Hello,

First of all make sure that the USB port that you are using to connect it to your PC is a USB 2.0 port, and not USB 1.0.

Also if it came with an external power, connect it to the external power before putting on your PC.

This is because the voltage supplied by USB 1.0 is lower than that of USB 2.0 and therefore might not be enough to power up your USB Drive.

After making sure about this, power up your system, and plug the external drive, then Right-Click on my computer icon, select manage, then go to Disk Management Option.

On the Disk management option Page you should see ALL the drives installed on your system, including the hidden ones, so what you will just do is, try and locate the one representing your external drive, and right click on it. then select "Change Drive letter and Paths", and give the drive any new, unique letter (i.e alphabet) different from the ones already on your system, and click on OK.

This should make your external Drive to be detected automatically.

Hope this helps you out.
Goodluck!
