Product Name: Marantz PM7003
Price: $1199.00 , Reviewed By: Steve Holding
Magazine: Australian Hi-Fi Vol 40 No 3 (May/June 2009)
The PM7003 is very similar to the highly-awarded PM7001KI in that it, too, uses completely symmetrical circuitry, and benefits from the use of Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Modules (HDAMs) which use current feedback rather than voltage feedback to enable greater dynamics, particularly when the amp is driving speakers whose impedance drops below their nominal value.
This equipment review consists of a full subjective evaluation of the Marantz PM7003 Integrated Amplifier, plus a complete test report, including frequency response graphs conducted by Newport Test Labs, plus an exhaustive analysis of the test results written by Steve Holding. This equipment review is currently available only as a low-resolution pdf version of the original magazine pages. You can download it here: Marantz PM7003 Integrated Amplifier Review and Test Report.pdf

We brought you news of Marantz's new sibling integrated stereo amp, the PM7003.
Using a two-stage construction concept, the PM7003 incorporates a dual-mono circuit design with short, direct and mirror imaged signal paths for precise, improved stereo imaging via symmetrical right and left channels.
Alongside the high grade components and current feedback Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Modules designed to preserve dynamic structure and tone, the design incorporates Marantz's proprietary Current Feedback amplification to deal with the loudest loudspeaker.
An oversized toroidal transformer offers low impedance wide bandwidth power with lots of energy reserve and instant current delivery to drive every type of speaker load, with 150W available across its two channels.
As is the norm, circuit shielding, heatsink, gold plated terminals and the reference standard chassis ensure sound quality is at its best, while Marantz's D-Bus connectivity is catered to.
An Amp Direct mode means it can operate as a power amp only. On sale now, the PM7003 retails at £400.

Posibly nothing. Look at the controls and indicators for a clue.

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Check for loose speaker connections at the speaker as another possible root cause forintermittent shutdown.

JVC AX-66 Integrated Amplifier seems to be muted?

You need to have a jumper between the 4 standalone jacks on the right side of the column of stereo connectors. A stereo RCA cable would work for this.

My JVC AX-33 is giving almos tno sound

My experience tells me that after an amplifier had been used for quite a while (more than 5 years), the contacts (on any button) wear out and become loose. If you try to press to engage, you will notice that the sound will come back on. The most frequently touched/used buttons are the one that wear out easily. These contacts should be replaced with original one. Substitute parts won't last long.
