Check Linkage for the 4WD transfer case, between the shifter and the case. if it is a direct case mounted shifter, you may need to remove it and check for obstruction.

Have you tried to shift it to 4H while at a slow roll in N? Sometimes that used to work for me in my older floor mount 4WD truck. Give it try!

SOURCE: automatic transmission wont catch into any gear

You sould have been moore frequent on your transmission fluid changes, and you shouldn't have taken it to Jiffy Lube either. Your best bet is to drain and fill the trans fluid run it shift gears. Drain and fill again. Do this 3 times. Yeah the transmission fluid is expensive. on the last drain and fill you want to get a bottle of LUBE GUARD from NAPA or who ever sells it. put the whole 10oz bottle in. Shift Rev, 1, 2, 3, D. Neutral Rev D. If that don't work then you have bad seals.

SOURCE: Excavator track needs to be put back on

after the idler is pushed all the way back into the frame.try to put some wood blocks under the track to remove all the slack.use the bucket to push as much of the bottom section under the bottom rollers.use a heavy chain and pull up and over the top of the roller.when you get close you can use the drive to walk it the rest of the way.if it still doesnt go you may have to break the track at the master pin. this is usually marked with a small hole drilled in the end of the pin.heat and beat the pin out, break the track.pull track over top rollers and make ends meet on top of the srocket.use a chainfall to pull two halfs together and line them up.drive pin back in and your all set.

I have a 2007 chevy aveo ls has a vacumn leak sometimes changes gears rough then other times changes just right. cant find vacumn leak. please help.

Most of your vac lines are located close to the throttle body or on top of the motor. The sucking sound you hear when the hood is closed may be the air going through the intake hose and box (smaller cars tend to make more air flow noise than others). If the trans is missing or not shifting properly you may want to look at the neutral safety switch. If your car seems to go and shift fine between 1st and 2nd gear and then it seems like it is guessing then this will be your best bet. You can always install it and if the problem persist then you can take it back, just bee sure to keep your receipt. If it is not that then you may be looking at an internal issue (most newer transmissions are computer controlled and do not use vacuum pressure to shift or downshift like older transmissions).

Let me know if there is any new information or if the fix works.

My mercury tillr 9.8 shifts backwards with throttle controller

Hi, basically it depends on the control box you have. On some you can fit the shift cable in 2 different positions, each one alters whether the cable pushes or pulls when you shift the gear lever. On others it cant be changed(not common). Regards Phil.

High RPM shifting?

seems as if the trans isnt shifting as it should and needs to be checked (could be the shift solenoid not working properly or gears are sticking)

I split the case of my RMX 250. When I put it back together it would not shift. All the gears and shift dogs are in the proper order. Could I have misplaced the shift dogs on the shift drum?

I seem to remember having an issue similar. Try this, ...
With the cases around half an inch seperated, spin the counter shaft sprocket shaft while working the halves together. This will "mesh" the gears better. If this doesn't help, you may have something out of order.

I have a mercury 50 blueband and i cant get it in gear can you help thanks

If you are trying to shift it while not running the "shift dog" may not be lined up with the gear, turn the prop a little should go in to gear. If the engine is running and will not shift then the idle could be set to high. On the control box there is often a small thumb screw that lifts the idle a little this may have been turned which will lock the **** mechanism for engaging gears, back off the idle screw. If you have replaced the shift or throttle cables these need to be readjusted before proper operation can continue.

We a vac line on the top of the tranny.cant find where to attached it. the new motor is reall hard to start.it pops and smells like it flooding. it came with the trotle body on the motor should i replace...

The pops and the disconnected vac(uum) line and the smell of fuel may al be related. The vacuum line to the auto transmission is there to tell that gear shift about the level of load that the engine is under. When you first start the car and accelerate really slowly notice how quickly the gear box shifts up through the gears. However if you accelerate hard the transmission holds each gear for a long time to take advantage of the high power delivered by the high engine speed. The vacuum line conveys to the transmission the level of vacuum in the inlet plenum manifold. When you accelerate slowly the throttle plates only opens a small amount and maintains a strong vacuum level. This vacuum permits the transmission to shift up through the gears quickly. If hard acceleration is demanded the throttle plate is fully open and there is almost no vacuum. The lack of vacuum on the transmission restricts gear shifts. The vacuum lie usually makes connection with the transmission on the left (facing towards the front of the car) near the selector switch. The other end of this line must make connection with a port on the inlet manifold plenum or runner (on my car the port connection is actually very close to the injector on the inlet runner towards the back of the engine). The open connection port is causing the other problems. With un-metered air entering the plenum (not passing through the throttle) the engine computer is struggling to keep the injection times long enough to keep the fuel to air mix balanced. This gives rise to very uneven running and perhaps the 'pops' and smell of fuel that you are experiencing. Locate the connection and stick the vacuum line from the transmission on it. Make sure that there no further leaks compromising the inlet vacuum. Make sure the interior of your 'new' throttle is very clean. All of these things help and add up to a better running engine.

Gear selection

Some trans were notorious for being hard to find neutral. When in first and you want to go into neutral, put slight pressure on the shift lever, blip throttle and slip lever into neutral. It has something to do with pressure release on the clutch plates.

1994 jeep cherokee linkage

Problem sounds like an internal pressure problem not a cable. If you are able to shift into all gears using the shifter, the linkage is being moved properly. It cannot "come out of gear" by way of the shifter.
In reality, if you were able to manually put the shift lever on the transmission into any particular gear without any shift cable at all attached, it would stay in that selected position forever till you got under there and moved it again. Depending upon what transmission you are using you may have a throttle cable running between the trans and throttle lever on the throttle body...this may have something to do with your problem but would also affect shift points. Any electronic shift controls are also suspect at this point. have it checked by a competent shop. In not being there myself, I can only offer my thoughts on what I would test going into the problem...after testing a better evaluation can be made. Good luck...Hope it's something simple.
