Question about Electrolux Washing Machines

1 Answer

Think a coin is stuck in the drum of our front loader washer. Still rotating but can hear it rattling around. Can we still use or is there a risk of creating a bigger problem? Is there any way we can get the coin out ourselves? It is an Electrolux EWF1090 (Australian).

Yeah but its hard, and may not just fall out. Tip it on its side or front to get the panel on the bottom off. then open the bottom of the machine, and take off the black rubber hose (has a screw driven hose clip) this will allow the coin/button/bra thing/kids toy from the burger joint to fall out when you tilt the machine back and spin and jiggle it. good luck. buy a spare belt and read the belt too small posts. (its not too small!)

Tim: 'Tip it on its side or front to get the panel on the bottom off. then open the bottom of the machine' Do you mean tip the whole washer over? That is, it has to be disconnected from the water lines and unplugged to do this? Are there other tools needed other than a screwdriver? Sounds like a 2 man job?

We have a dryer fin with something rattling around in it. Do the fins come off?

Need a model number for the dryer for a more definitive answer--usually you would have to open the top cover to expose the drum. Depending on the model dryer, some baffles(proper name) are screwed onto the drum, some have plastic tabs which must be carefully pushed in order to remove the baffle. Most likely, the rattling is caused by coins left in pockets--they won't damage the dryer but can be irritating to listen to. Front load washers are notorious for trapping coins in the baffles of the rotating baskets--and that is A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR if you want to have the coins or objects removed.

Something rolling inside the Drum

The rear half of the outer tub, with bearing is part # 131525500 and it looks like the back "spider" shaft is not available as a separate part from the inner drum. The "spider" shaft is most likely worn or damaged and in need of replacement also.
131618500
Then, there's that strut
134564200
Now, two pain in the back side hours of your labor and you've got your washer back, at more than what a new one would cost! Junk it and get a new larger capacity front loader.
Please don't rate this, as anything but the top rating will lower my score. I'm just giving you my honest opinion, that your machine is not economical to repair. I've owned a LG front loader for over 6 years and think they are the best, but there are other good front loaders out there also.

Water stays in drum after cycle is complete and odor

I think from what you have said, that you have a pump problem. The water pump on most washers collect all sorts of bits and pieces including small coins. You may be able to clean out the pump if it is not a sealed unit.

Coin trapped between rotating drum and casing

Get underneath the machine and remove the big black house coming directly out of the drum, this is held in place with either a screw tie or pinch type tie.
Put the machine back level and see if the coins drop out (they should) or have a feel around inside the drum.
Please make sure machine is unplugged and empty before carrying out this procedure.
Some water will come out of hose.
