Question about Toshiba PC Laptops

Problem(s) - Display, Memory... something?

A few weeks or so ago my girlfriend's laptop (a Toshiba Satellite A105-S4284) decided to shutdown on her without warning and refuse to start back up. After a few attempts, we did see it start, but it proceeded to freeze and work only intermittently. At some point we were treated to a full startup where it popped open a window that said the problem was caused by memory. We though "alright, memory" and just recently bought some (making sure it was the right kind, of course) when our budget could handle it.

The memory arrives today and we're understandably excited that we'll have the laptop back in working condition (she herself - an artist who had much of her work on her laptop - being particularly relieved). Having experience putting in laptop RAM, she proceeds to pop it in place and goes to turn on the computer.

Nothing. In fact, this is more nothing than we're used to - a nothing similar to our last few attempts when the computer initially started acting up. There is a little noise from in the machine, suggesting it's not completely dead, but only intermittently can it fully start its process of buzzing, whirring, and consequently, starting up.

On the occasions that it does get itself going, things seem to be fine. That is until it crashes, freezing completely and then going to a black screen and the aforementioned state of "nothingness." This will either happen on its own (given adequate time) or when the laptop is slightly moved (I had it on my lap, went to put it down, and bam, it did it again).

Also of note is the fact that the display will sometimes in these cases "glitch out" a bit - leaving odd blocks and lines of color.

Help, please?

Several things here:
-memory is not seated correctly
-the memory is defective
-mobo problems.
Try reseating the memory first and rebooting.
Try another stick of ram if available.
Let me know the results.

Have you scanned the machine to make sure that virus', spyware, trojans, etc. are not the problem? If so, Toshiba has a diagnostic utility I'd like you to run. That might help pinpoint what else might be wrong.
    Download this and run it.
If you haven't scanned the machine, go to TrendMicro and use their online tool

The video chipset is another possibility. Does the laptop use the Intel chipset or the ATI? Also, has the bios been upgraded? What version is it currently?

More on the bios, This update mentions fixing some of the things you mentioned in your original post. This is something to look at.

Satellite a105-s4284 powers on and goes through boot successfully for about 1 minute then does a hard shutdown

I'm sure you have reseated/replaced the Memory mods? Have you thoroughly cleaned the fan, vents, heatsink? Have you done ANY hardware updates? Graphics? If you boot to Safe Mode any change? Have you tried a System Restore? Try another Cord/Charger with the Exact same power specs. Try removing battery and boot.

Screen shattered want to connect to HDMI for HDTV. Boots up on TV then says no signal what should I do?

Press the FN+F5 key, this is the hotkey combination that switches your display from the LCD to the external output. If this does not work, make sure you are using the S-Video output on your laptop to connect to the TV, since your Toshiba model does not have an HDMI compatible output.

My laptop toshipa A135 has died. when i push power

In this case you need to check the inverter, defective inverter will cause the following symptoms:
No Display
dim screen
Screen Flash on and Off between 1/2 to a few seconds

Actually you need to replace the inverter buy a new inverter which is compatible to the old one. Installing the inverter is easy, it does not require any technical skills. In fact, it is a lot easier then changing the I/O Card in your PC System because there is no driver ( Software) Involve.
Tools:
Philips screw driver
Small Flat screwdriver

Preparation:
Make sure your have enough space on your desk and it must be clean.
Disconnect AC Adapter and Remove Battery from Laptop Computer.

Procedures:
This procedure is based on Toshiba Satellite A105-S4284 (with 15.4 inch Screen)
Removing the front bezel on Laptop screens is easy. Usually, these screws are covered by small rubber pad; so, all you need to do is remove these rubber pad and screws. To do this procedure you can find some instructions as shown on the next few photos to the link that i can provide below.

Can't get my laptop to display on a monitor.

Most laptops require you to press the Fn (Function) key and another key on the keyboard to activate the external video port, not too sure which button on your model it is, but it should look like a monitor.

Other than that it could be your board is fried. Which will need replacement/ repair.

Display shutdown

The next time this happens, try to manually operate the lid switch a couple of times. These switches can go bad and allow the unit to go into hibernation mode.
