All you could do is to open the back cover of the television and check for dry soldering and bulged capacitor... power supply board is dead, u know basic electronics' and soldering? Most of the times, the power supply board just have dead leakages gases capacitors. These capacitors always bulges up on it top,or puff up on it top.Replaced these gases leakages capacitors will get your TV power stable, and work again.Or tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole refurbish power supply board for the replacement.
I hope this will in solving the problem. Take care.....
ok,,your problem is not on the lamp itself.,the problem is on your screen controller.the controller is connected on the plyback you can adjust the screen intensity of the red, green, blue cathode..on your screen adjustment.
The regulator is not involved in this problem if the regulator is the defect you cant turn on the tv, but the issue is theturns off without warning, and often turns back on again the switch is also a suspect for this problem, you know in this case we do not look for a one bad parts, maybe the Solder is cold solder, or maybe the tact switch, or some bad capacitor or change value resistor. ill re commend you to look for a qualified electronic technician to clearly diagnose for this problem...
Note.. as i read in this complaint the regulator is good and not to replace..
There should be three circuit boards on that model a small board on the right then a larger board in the middle and another large board on the left the vertical IC will be located on the middle board it will be attached to a aluminum heat sink.
Thats the PTV711 chassis phillips magnavox. I would suspect the vertical output IC needs to be resolderd. Its located on a aluminum heatsink and should have vertical stamped on the board near where the IC is located. Often when the vertical drops out it causes the CRTs not to light as a safety feature to protect the tubes. let me know if you need more assistance.
if you can remove the screen you probably need to clean the mirror. if that is the case, don't use windex use a very mild solution of dish liquid (3-4 drops to the quart) then you will have to wash it several times with that. any harsher solution will remove the mirror surface. use a very soft , lint free cloth but not terry material. your bath room mirror has the "silver on the back side this one if it glass has the "silver on the front. if it is mylar don't press hard or it will streach and distort the pix. good luck
this is an old case and Im sure you have a new TV by now. The problem is the tuner. The grounds are cold and need to be re-heated. The tuner is the little box your cable plugs into. Open the back and you will see where it is soldered to the main board. Heat them back up with a little solder should be three points. while you are in there look around and see if you find more. if that doesnt work then you may have to take the case of the tuner off and look inside for more cold solder joints
