Hello,

It is actually meant to last for 15 hour per charge, and it lasting just 5-6 hours simply means it is either not fully charged or the battery is weak.

It uses a lithium ion rechargeable battery, and it can be replaced, you will have to open it up to be able to locate the battery.

If you are not familiar with such activities, i will strongly advice you get a repairman replace the battery for you.

Since taking a walk with it wont take up to 5-6 hours, it will be best you leave it that way, and try to recharge as soon as it drops, but if you use it for over that amount of time in a day then you can replace it. the battery is located right underneath the wrist band used in strapping the hand.

Take care

That unit is probably 7-10 years old... it probably has a dead battery. either buy a new one or get out your special screw driver kit to see if the one inside can be ordered from someone like Batteries+ or Amazon.com

Did you just post about a dead battery? I think you did. Either replace the battery or get a new unit.

I'm looking to buy a replacement charging cradle for my Garmin Forerunner 201 but the only ones I can find also come with an adapter and I'd prefer not to pay for something I don't need. Any suggestions?

Contact Garmin at 1-800-800-1020. You can order the cradle part for your Forerunner 201 for $6.54 plus $8.00 shipping. You can also get the complete charger on Ebay as low as $20.50 including shipping. Thats the best I could find.

Where can I buy the 043048 replacement battery for the Garmin 201

Good question I am also faced with. Garmin Europe did not/could not help. I found this supplier in the US: http://www.ecrater.com/product.php?pid=5375133
but at this price you cannot expect quality and the battery may be even dangerous...
please post your experience/success here (if any)
instructions see under http://www.fixya.com/support/t2546458-change_battery_garmin_forerunner_301
good luck! swisscheese

The screen on my Forerunner 201 is suddenly blank. Is charged. Wasn't dropped.

I left the unit on to run the battery down completely, then put it on charger and the screen was readable again.

Change battery on Garmin Forerunner 301

Hi - look at this solution for a forerunner 201, which has the same case design. I was just looking myself! R_nz Rank: Apprentice Rating: 96%, 8 votes I've made some progress here, I discovered that there is a small notch beneath the flat black pastic insert that holds the rubber button cover in. By gently prising this out, I can at least expose the pcb with the buttons on. I still can't figure out how to open the case though ****! Comments: Jan 29, 2008 - Well, I got there in the end! As above, I managed to prise the plastic insert cover off the rubber button cover, the peeeled this off as well. Underneath is a mylar printed circuit with the silver domeos of the buttons moulded in. This is siliconed down, but you can peel it up with a fingernail. The top left end (above the on button) is aatached inside the case, so start at the other end. Jan 29, 2008 - .ctd.. Once you have lifted the mylar strip, you can get at the case seam underneath and prise it gently open with a flat blade. The case is glued together with a light silicon or something. My problem was unresponsive buttons and by detaching and then re-attaching the small connector by the big silver block where the mylar attaches to the main board and then re-attaching it, it seemed to fix it! :-) Oct 22, 2008 - As an end-note; I glued my 201 back together with a light Silicone sealer. It seems to be at least rain proof anyway. Forerunner 201 battery replacement (Expert level): Opening the 201 was not easy and could not be done 100% clean, but thanks to R_nz (above) I got it open. My problem was dead (almost) battery, after 6 years of superb operation. I found the battery to be glued (double sided tape) to the back cover. To remove, push it up slowely and pull out. Beware of the short wires. 1. It is a flat battery, wrapped in shrinkable tube. Made by MDTechnology, P/N 043048 3.7V, 500mAh see http://www.mydbattery.com/EN/products.asp?ID=12 2. On the cover, the battery is soldered to the underside of a small PCB, hard to get to (by expert!). If you find a battery, suggest to cut the wires and solder wire-to-wire. Hope that helps

Battery

The battery on this model tends to last between 2 to 4 hrs dependant on use. Does yours only work uoto about 2 hrs or does it sometimes last longer? If the battery is more tham 5 years old it MAY be worth changing.

I too dropped my tom tom go 300. It appears the battery was disloged as it will only work if attached to another power source; AC Adapter or cigarette plug. Does anyone know how to open the case to check on the battery?
