Question about Dell Vostro 1500 Notebook

1 Answer

Hi, I have a Dell Vostro 1500 around 2 and half years old. It has stopped booting. When i press the power button, the power indicator, Hard Disk access indicator, and other blue indicators momentarily come up, and then the LEDs switch off. Only the power indicator remains on. There is nothing on the screen, so, the BIOS is also not up for sure. Also, when i press the power button again, it switches off immediately, with a faint noise of a motor kind of thing going down. Not sure, if it helps :-). Can it be a VGA issue or BIOS chip issue ? Please suggest,

    Hi,
Could not get you how to go to BIOS ? Since nothing is visible on screen, i am not sure if the BIOS chip is working even or not. Can you elaborate a bit on how to go to BIOS please.

Press F2 on start up then you will be able to look at the BIOS, BUT you said you don't see nothing on the screen. If is a BLUE or BLACK screen?

Vostro 1500 screen blank except for flashing cursor

The good news is that your laptop powers on and you have a display. The bad news is that you laptop is trying to boot up from an OS (operating system software) like XP, Vista, or Win 7. Ether your software is corrupted or you have a problem with the hard drive or hard drive controller.
Press and hold the <Fn> key while powering the system on. This will run the Dell Diagnostics. Another more intense diagnostic program is located on a Dell CD that you should have received with your laptop. Look for one that has "Diagnostics and utilities" listed under the "Contents". You will have to boot from that CD disk. To do this, power on your laptop and tap the <F12> key to bring you to the "One time boot menu". Insert the CD and then select CD/DVD drive and hit <Enter> key. Select the "Run the 32 Bit Dell Diagnostics".
If diagnostics pass then your software is corrupted and needs to be reinstalled.

I have a Dell Vostro 1510 which was working fine during its last use. I went to power it up and only the fan would run but had a black screen. I held down the power button, but only the fan stopped...

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

Hi, I have bought this dell vostro 1015 laptop one and half year ago. Day before yesterday my windows XP hanged and I was unable to shut down. So I pressed power on button for few seconds to switch off...

It sounds like your hard drive has gone bad. As this is a laptop you can try to reseat the hard drive, if that does not help then it might be a case of hard drive crash.

Won't Start No lights flashing does nothing when I hit the power button

Try taking out battery and plug in power. If it works, battery is faulty.
If not, try taking out your hard disk plug in power, if it works, hard disk is faulty.
Try taking out memory card, if there's a sound, memory card faulty. If no sound, it's your motherboard that is causing the error.

Laptop Won't startup Vostro 1500

See if you can run the Pre-boot System Assessment (PSA) diagnostics. To run the PSA+ Diagnostics on this system, perform one of the following actions:

1) Hold down the <Fn> key while pressing the power button.

2) Turn on the system, press <F12> at the initial Dell™ logo screen, and select “Diagnostics” from the boot menu.

3) Disconnect the AC power and remove the battery. While holding down the power button, insert the AC connector into the back of the system. The system then starts and the message “Diagnostic boot selected” displays. The system then launches the PSA+ Diagnostics.

According to Dell specs, there is no error code listed that you described, (Flashing Caps LED). Also try reseating the memory modules, (you might want to try this first).

Power problem in monitor

This type of problem generally occurs when adoptor stops working and battery goes down. Show first of all check your power adoptor, its working or not, to check-out remove battery and use power adoptor then try to boot. If there is power led on means adoptor is ok otherwise try to reconnect and also check whether the power supply is ok for adoptor. For canfirmation use another adoptor.

If above not working then you can try to these steps:
1. Remove Power connection (Adoptor connection to Laptop).
2. Remove battery.
3. Re-Connect power to laptop.
4. Make switch on.
If above does not work then after step 2 try the followings
A. Press and hold power button for abt 20-30 secs. keep holding on and insert Power connection now if power led get on leave the button. After that it should on.

If all above didn't solve your problem, then its time to take tour of service centre.

Thanks and Good Luck
Iqbal
