One of two things has happened.

1. If you have taken the trimmer apart recently, when you put it back together, you didn't get the drive shaft seated properly back in place. Simply loosen the shaft and pull the start cord very slowly unitil you feel the shaft seat into place.

2. Or, the drive shaft has broken inside the shaft housing. Replace with a new one.

Good Luck!!

Ryobi Reeleasy line trimmer head PROBLEM

sounds like the clip isn't engaging properly. For a bump and feed they have steps that lock when enough cord is set out. If the head is not locked when its on it will recoil in. Try to make sure its not sitting wrong.

I broke the flex drive shaft but can't remove the head to get out the broken shaft piece. I got the big part of the shaft out from the top. the bump head has been replaced by the kind that you cut 2 pieces...

The flex shaft drive you are referring to is only sold as a assy that I am aware of. You can try www.partstree.com for the replacement shaft assy. you are refering to, however you may find out by the time you buy a new shaft assy you may be money ahead just buying a new trimmer.
Sorry

Replacing Drive Shaft for a Ryobi 725r

The lower flex shaft should cost around $40, unless you order it online and have to pay shipping. You should be able to get one from your local MTD dealer. (Ryobi is owned by MTD)
