Question about Washing Machines

I would like to know where I can obtain (In Australia if possible) a superior drive coupler, ie. metal parts as the standard under engineered plastic parts continue to break too easyly and often. Also parts numbers for same would be much appreciated. Many thanks Bill.

The new drive motor coupler has metal sleeves for added strength. There's no full metal motor drive coupler as it is designed to break when the transmission is restricted to prevent the drive motor from burning out. You should a look into the transmission assembly if you have a frequent breaking of the drive coupler. You can purchase the new style drive coupler here. I'm not sure if it is already available in Australia. You can inquire from this store if the drive coupler they have is the new style.

Cracked plate under engine

By looking at the picture, It seems to be only the plastic under body plate of your car. It,s there to protect the underbody of the car ( engine and tranny) from foreing object (rocks or things that could be on the road).

Yes if it's not contacting any rotating part of the engine or the road you can drive your car . But for pricing you are going to need to call your parts dealer.

Kenmore 700 series 110.26712693 washer top load will not agitate or spin but will drain. I took out the agitator and nothing stuck under there. I hear metal on metal grinding noise. Could there be...

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Look in the section for the motor, pump gearcase and you'll see the Motor Coupler.

Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive washers use a "Motor Coupler" between the motor and transmission. This is the most likely and a common (cheap to fix) problem.

It's used as a fail safe device and consists of three parts.

Two of the parts are the same, plastic units with three prongs that fit on one of the motor output shafts and the other on the transmission input shaft. Between them is a rubber piece with six holes.

The power from the motor is transmitted through the rubber piece to the transmission.

The other shaft on the motor directly drives the pump. This is likely why the machine drains.

If the motor coupler is broken, or worn, the motor may not be able to send full power to the transmission for agitating or spinning.

See the following for how to remove the cabinet, pump, motor and motor mounting plate to inspect and replace the motor coupler.

If the coupler looks damaged, it's a relatively easy fix.

Pry the plastic pieces from the motor and transmission. Some people use a claw hammer but I've found that using a small (6 inch) pry bar works well.

Carefully fit the plastic pieces over the motor and transmission shafts and press them in place (Use a 1/2" of larger socket to put pressure equally around the pieces.

Put the rubber piece on the transmission plastic piece.

Replace the motor mounting plate.

Carefully line up the plastic prongs on the motor based plastic piece to the three un-used holes in the rubber piece. If they don't line up right, the coupler could be damaged.

Mount the motor, don't forget the two screws, put the pump back on the motor and use its' clips.

Put the cabinet back on, don't forget to plug the lid switch back in and re-mount the console.

Broken plastic front door cover.

I take it you live in Perth, Scotland and not Perth Australia.

Contact whirpool direct and say that you need part number 4812 440 10817 it shows on whirlpool database as a glass door frame but it means it's the plastic around the glass ( I promise you) acording to my system ( I'm a Whirlpool engineer) you can get one direct from us for about £22.77 plus delivery or you could go to your local retailer with the part number given and see if you can get it cheaper

Plastic peice that fits under plate inside micowave that makes it rotate

If the model number you have this question listed under is correct, there are two possible parts based on your question. There is the carousel ring, that turns the glass tray, and there is the small plastic coupler that the center of the glass tray is supported by. The part numbers are as follows:

Carousel ring - WB06X10513
Coupler - WB06X10564

You can view and excellent exploded view diagram of this microwave at The parts I mention are listed under Diagram 1151005 as items 84 and 101 respectively.

To replace the coupler, you simply remove the glass tray and gently pry straight up. The coupler will pull off of the turn table motor shaft. Insert the new coupler and press on to the shaft.

If this is not the correct model number, please post back with your correct information so that I may be able to provide you with better assistance. I hope this helps you.

Can't get the drive coupling off my Bosch Universal to replace it

I have had my Bosch Universal Mixer with the Blender and Food Processor Attachments since 2005, and I've loved it since the day I got it... that is, until the blender broke while my son was crushing ice to make slushies...

I figured out the "drive coupler" was stripped and needed replacing, but I couldn't figure out how to take apart the "blade assembly" which includes the "drive coupler" part...

My retailer, Pleasant Hill Grain, sent me the following email:

"I am not aware of any printed instructions for removing the old coupling and
replacing with the new. We recommend holding on to the blades with 1 hand and a
towel and using a needle nose pliers to unscrew the old coupling. You would put
the new coupling on in the same manner.
If these instructions do not work, I would suggest contacting the Service
Dept at Kitchen Resources in Utah. Their phone is 800-692-6724."

I still couldn't figure out how to take apart the blade assembly, so I did end up calling the distributor, Kitchen Resources...

Dave, the tech @ Kitchen Resources, answered my call on the first ring...

Once I explained my problem, he started giving me the same instructions Pleasant Hill Grain gave
me... I explained to him that holding the blades tightly wasn't working for me.

As it turned out, holding the blades did not secure the drive shaft because
the drive shaft was broken off INSIDE the blade assembly - which is why I could
not unscrew the old drive coupling part.

Dave's next question revealed the true issue at hand... my Blender Attachment has the blade assembly made of plastic - they switched to plastic
in 2005 because the metal assembly turned black in dishwashers.

Bosch just recently went back to using metal for this part - apparently the
plastic blade assembly didn't hold up.

Kitchen Resources - the U.S. Bosch Distributor - is sending me a new blade
assembly - no charge, he said it's covered under warranty. Woo Hoo!

Best of all, I hadn't yet purchased the replacement drive coupling part, because
I wanted to know how to go about replacing the part before ordering a new part.

With shipping this part would have been a $50+ repair - you have to love
customer service of that caliber!

[Aside: You really don't need to ever put this part in the dishwasher - wash
the inside with by putting hot water and perhaps a little dish detergent inside
the blender and turning it on - rinse the outside under the sink... no
dishwasher needed! ]

Need to plastic coupler that holds turn table in place

If you need a replacement turntable coupler, you can find this part listed as item number 942560 at Just type in your model number.

To replace, all you need to do is carefully slide something under the existing coupler (if you can) and pry up. The coupler will pull off the motor shaft.

If you cannot access the coupler due to the way it was broken, simply remove the bottom panel UNDER the oven. With the panel removed, locate the small turntable motor and loosen the mounting screws to remove. The coupler should be easily accessible with the motor out of the unit. Make sure you reinstall the turntable motor and bottom panel BEFORE you try to install the new coupler. The coupler needs to be installed from inside the oven cavity by placing it in the opening in the oven floor and pushing straight down onto the motor shaft.

If you have questions, or require additional assistanc, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

My Whirlpool LSR6232J serial 4217141

If the washer fills, but fails to agitate or spin, the likely cause is a failed motor coupling. There is usually a loud rattling noise associated with a broken coupler. This may be the noise you hear. NOTE: The washer will STILL drain if the motor coupling is bad. The following link explains how to replace one:

If the washer fills, may or may not agitate, then stops right after filling, or just before the spin cycle*, you more than likely have a failed lid switch. NOTE: The washer will NOT drain with a defective lid switch. The following link explains how to replace a lid switch:

* These symptoms vary between models. The result is still the same, however, the washer generally stops at some point before the spin cycle and will not complete a wash load.

Read through both links and try to determine your symptoms. When it comes to lid switches, they sometimes come loose and only need to be retightened. Double check the mounting screws. In most cases, the clicking sound of the switch indicates the switch is good. However, I have found where the actual switch assembly was cracked or separated and made a similar sound, but the contacts were not engaging. Inspect the entire switch, if in doubt.

Motor Couplers allow for the Drive Motor to drive the transmission. This is the connecting link between the two. The coupler takes the punishment in order to protect the motor and transmission from damage. If you are in the habit of washing heavy loads (i.e., blankets, comforters, etc.) this can reduce the life of the coupler. A tell tale sign of a broken coupler is a pile of black filings under the washer. This is usually particles of the rubber bushing between the coupler halves. Another thing that happens is the center hole of the plastic coupler would round out and spin on the either motor or transmission shaft as the older couplers were made entirely of plastic. Replacement couplers (the part number I provided in the link) now have a steel grommet in the center of the plastic which prevents this from happening.

If you check both these possibilites and you still have problems, let me know. I'm trying to rule out the possibility of something more significant, like a transmission problem. Both of these parts are inexpensive (about $50 combined) and can be found at Just type in your model number in the search menu. The lid switch is located under the "Top and Cabinet" heading as item number 11 (part number 3949247). The Motor Coupling can be located under the "Brake/Clutch/Gearcase/Motor/Pump" heading as item number 13 (part number provided in the link). For comparative shopping, also carries these parts, sometimes at a reduced price.

I hope this helps you. If you have questions, please let me know.
