After installing a new video card, the computer boots ok. After I shut it down, it won't boot unless I pull the card and reinstall it. In other words it only boots once after the card is in the slot! I have all the latest nvidia drivers for the card, but still the same problem.

Hi granttoolmad
Shut down computer and disconnect power plug . Extract new graphics . Reconnect and reboot computer , you should get video back . Install the driver with the cdrom you purchased with the card . Shut down . Install new card . and boot your machine . Wait for Windows to recognize the card . Shut down . Connect your monitor to new card . Reboot .

hi there,
well this won't sound good but you are most likely suffering from a hardware failure. It sounds like your video card. this can overheat once and just get worse from there(runs for but 20 minutes or so then dead). so you would have to replace that to fix the first issue.
ok so since you have done a reinstall to a drive that had a kernel(version of windows) that is still present and newer thru updates. the recovery is a missmatch in files.
so you have now made it hard to get to your data unless you have another hard drive(then just do a fresh install to new drive and view old drive for data). as you will need to have a new boot record on the operating systems drive (or clean the old drives boot record with fixmbr this would require much more explanation)

hope this helps

Hello, I'm about to buy some things on newegg.com and was wondering since I have nvidia 9500gt, will a motherboard with an onbaord video of ati raedon conflict my card from working?

It most likely will cause a conflict.
Install your new video card, with the monitor connected to the on-board video port, boot up the computer and go to the BIOS configuration and disable the on-board video. Then shut down the computer.
Move the monitor cable to your new video card port and boot up the computer and install the new video driver.

I would be careful if i was you because if it is a fan problem and you are starting up anyway your system can overheat and if that happens you just might be buying a new pc instead of a fan :) I use driveragent.com for all my driver needs. it searches your pc after you install it and finds any outdated or wrong drivers you might have and u can download them with a click of a button :) its a small fee but well worth it i used to have to search for hours trying to find drivers and then get a wrong 1 and continue the search

Computer crashed. Computer specialist restored drive. now cannot boot windows. Used restore disk. Did not work. computer boots dos screen then shuts down. boots again then shuts down.

Sounds like a Windows issue. Depending on how valuable it is to you to get your data off the drive, I would suggest buying a new hard drive (they are fairly cheap these days), installing Windows on that. Word of advice: Remove your old drive when doing the Windows install, so as not to accidentally select the hard drive your data is on. Once you have Windows installed, shut down your computer, remove the power cord, and install your old drive on a separate IDE channel or SATA connection. If your PC still tries to boot to the old drive, change the boot order in your PC's BIOS.

Tecra M3 won't boot, hdd light comes on then off.

The hard disk can be installed in another computer, but it won't boot up and run unless the computer is the same make and model with the same devices as the previous computer.
If it is not then you need to do a fresh Windows install to get a working computer.
What you can do as an alternative is to install the hard drive in an USB hard drive adapter case and use it as an external USB hard drive.

I have an issue with the screen scrambling everthing and the pc just shutting down. The last time it restarted and froze up

what version of windows ... start in safe mode does it still happen... does it shut down or reboot ... most common cause of this issue is a driver conflict ... if it is not a driver conflict check the display drivers ... if updating or reinstalling display driver does not work it may be the video card ... if the video is integrated install a expansion board vid card and disable the onboard video ... if the card is not integrated remove it ... restart ... shut down and replace it then boot again ... if you have a newer system check the video card fan which may be $#$@ up and overheating ... if you cant trace it to hardware try using a boot cd .. one of the linux cds ... if it is ok with an alternate OS try doing a OS repair on windows .. the other possibility is a memory issue if it is a cheap mobo with shared video ram...
