Ether the cartridge was refilled wroung or there is a issue with the print head, your going to need to take the refilled unit back where it was filled at, if that is not the case then the print head is not reading the cart.

Trying cleaning the contacts on the cartridge and clean the contacts on the printer use a dry tint paper towel to clean the contacts. Then try to reinstall the cartridge using the software. Try to print the self test. If failed try another cartridge if you dont get any error then the cartridge might be defective

The error may not be specifically a toner cartridge problem but may be due to a stuck cover open switch on the printer. If the printer worked fine with the cartridges for a while ..it means they are compatible ..and this is not the issue..The issue is with the counter needing reset..Just look in the manual ..to see the reset procedure and specially for counters..and they will work ..
Some printers cane be tricked if you insert another cartridge for a while ..and than put these ones back ..The memory for the cartridge counter is just for the last 2 ..so it will probably see them as new..Also try to remove and put them back ..and see if it is asking to confirm if they are new..If it asks such a thing ..it will reset the counter when the confirming is done ..But .to be sure you have to reset the printer..or use new cartridges..(there are printers that will not reset the counters at all ..and will read the cartridge's chip ..and consider them after the number of copies done already ..This is the reason for needing reset ..

You have a chip which controls the cartridge.
Get the chip of the old cartridge and change.
The chip is on the top right side of teh cartridge.
Or put a genuine cartridge.
