TravelMate 800 memory speed

I just got a TravelMate 800LCi which I brought to life again after switching some parts. It now runs as it should, but would benefit from more RAM (now 512Mb - I want at least 1Gb).
Acer specs says it has PC2100 DDR2 memory (266MHz). Some tips on the netforums I've visited says it can run with PC2700.
DDR2-memorys don't often comes with these low speeds, these SO-DIMMs are scarce and expensive, so I wonder:
Can faster memorys be mounted in this particular laptop?
(I know that it can't benefit from the faster speed they're designed for, but WILL IT WORK with, let's say - PC5400?)

Hello,

Probably not. Not in laptops where the northbridge chip is hardwired to run with one ram speed. However, you can try a faster piece of RAM from a friend. Better yet, is to go to Crucial.com or Samsung.com and use their memory configurator to find out for sure.

Upgrade to higher cpu speed travelmate 270

CPU speed is not going to make much of a difference. You need to increase RAM (random access memory). This will make a huge difference in speed performance.

I have acer travelmate 800 series, the notebook stopped working so i bought a new motherboard and power switch still the laptop will not start. it is getting power but wont start, i have tried taking out...

Have you tried powering it up without any periferals?? take out the RAM, HDD, WIFI, CD, etc... I've seen a BAD wireless network card preventing the system to power up... if it seams to power up than put back stuff in one by one starting with the RAM to see what periferal is causing the problem... If not than it could be the CPU...

Good Luck!

I have an acer travelmate 660 can i upgrade things like the ram and memory to play the latest games like the sims 2 or 3

Probably not. The ram and memory are the same thing, and it never hurts to get more. However, the key to running the latest games is determined primarily by the cpu speed, and a dedicated game card, which processes more video and sound information, and accelerates the video. As they say, you pay to play, and upgrading is the way, but the latest games require the higher end machines.

Motherboard p3v4x : during bootup i get a system

Hi,
This error is usually caused by an incorrect setting of either bus speed or multiplier (or sometimes processor chip operating voltage). These could be set either by software ie in BIOS or by changing tiny switches mounted on the motherboard.
Have you consulted your motherboard manual?
Try here: http://www.motherboards.org/files/manuals/1/p3v4x-102.pdf
or try the ASUS website and look under support or the discussion forums.
This will help: http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx

These freq and voltage settings are set under BIOS which is usually accessed by hitting the DELETE key on your keyboard after turning on your computer.
Sometimes a quick fix is to enter BIOS as per the above instruction and selecting LOAD BIOS DEFAULTS or something similar to that and then save and exit BIOS and allow the computer to reboot.. That may get you to the point of booting up without the improper freq comb error.
If you have no luck playing with the above info, shut down your computer and remove the left hand side cover on your computer box or tower, so you can access the inner workings of your computer.
Remove the cooling fan from your processor chip. It will be a large square or circular (black or silver colour).
Take a look at your processor chip. Note the part number printed on the chip, which is only visible after you remove the cooling fan. For example it may say for example SL52P or something else. It may also be an AMD chip.
Search the internet for its specifications ie search for SL52P.
For example, if it was a Pentium 3 chip running at 800 Mhz go to google and search for specs of P3 800 Mhz processor with the part number SL52P.
Google returns the following info (based on the example above) of:
http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SL52P
ie its a chip that runs at 800Mhz speed with the memory running at 133 Mhz (800 mhz processor speed obtained by having the multiplier set to 6 but actually means the memory is running at 133 MHZ but the processor running at 6 times the speed of the memory bus ie 133x6=800 MHZ (one of the settings you need to get right in your BIOS settings)
So if you had this chip, in BIOS you would select 133 bus speed, with the multiplier of 6 usually locked down on the processor physical internal wiring.
If your BIOS doesnt allow you to play with the processor and memory bus settings (commonly done to make the processor overclock to a faster speed) the other option is that you have the DIP switches on your motherboard set to the wrong settings. Again, refer to to your motherboard manual. The DIP switches are tiny plastic switch blocks on the motherboard with a row of (usually) white sliding switches.

Can i combine 2 different DDR2memory RAM on two slots??? my motherboard can carry DDR2-667 and DDR2-800,,, i'm really confuse if i can add 1gb of 667 and 1gb of 800 and together they can run smooth..

They will run together but at the slower speed so you are better to match speeds.

I would sell the 667MHz stick and buy the matched 800MHz, its alot quicker.
