It is possible (not always likely) that something may have allowed the gas to escape out of one side of your screen. As there can be 2 or 4 chambers for plasma gas to reside (this is usually discernible given the size and complexity of your particular set).

OR, there is something wrong/loose with the internal connections to each 'chamber', I.e., the tuner could have gone out for the top row or the connections serving the top row have become corrupt.

Sadly, I am not away of any consumer ready testing equipment for Plasma sets, so troubleshooting the issue to a finite point to tell the technician whet to do (other than rook you like crazy) is going to be a bit tough.

I personally pass on working on plasmas as they are brutally fragile, but if your adventuresome, take a screw driver to the back and see/smell (no I'm not kidding) for signs of damage.

Hope this helped...

Thin red line across screen two inches for the top. Picture above line is good, picture below line has no color and double image.

Hello,

IF YOU HAVE A SOLID BLACK LINE RUNNING VERTICALLY THEN YOU HAVE A FAULTY MATRIX INVERTER. IF CENTRAL THE MAIN VERTICAL INVERTER NEEDS CHANGED. LEFT = LEFT VERTICAL INVERTER RIGHT=RIGHT.........

ANOTHER WAY TO GET THIS FAULT IS WORN OR DAMAGED RIBBON/PLASTIC GOING FROM THE SCREEN MATRIX TO THE INVERTER

Hope this will help out.....

Phillips 42 inch Plasma -Screen Issues!!!

intermittent loss of picture on either bottom or top half of screen is specific to y buffer boards located on left side of screen going from top to bottom when looking at back of tv. the y lower buffer would be the board to replace to resolve the loss of bottom half of picture. if the top half also is going out intermittently could tied to upper buffer as well but just a note the y main board to right of these buffers drives those two boards so in some cases could also be part of the problem. if only bottom half is affected i would recommend replacing lower buffer only

Picture separated on 1/2 of screen

This sounds like a convergence problem. This is a common problem that is usually fixed 98% of the time by re-placing the STK392-020 ic or STK392-110, and check the fuse devices on the covergence PCB. I'm sure the actual parts numbers depend on the peticular brand. Good Luck!
