Question about Westinghouse 22" Widescreen LCD Flat Panel Monitor

Open Question

Westinghouse flat panel monitor, model LCM-19W4. When I turn the computer on the green "power light" illuminates but the screen remains black for several seconds, then it flashes white for one second, then returns to black for a few seconds, then flashes white again for only one second and then returns to black again. It stays black until the amber "power light" illuminates several seconds later. If I turn the monitor off and restart it, it will go throught his cycle again. It is totally unusable as it is.

I had the same problem with my two LCM-19W4 monitors. Both failed within two months of each other. Radio Shack stocks 220uF 35V capacitors that work fine for this. You have to pay $1.49 ea though.

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

SOURCE: Westinghouse LCM-19w4 has power, but blank screen

refer to an earlier post about similar problems. Does it power up and then shut itself off. this is possibly due to two defective capacitors. 27 cents on line $1.50 at radio shack. They will be puffy on top. I am a complete novice to soldering a capacitor onto a board. but since I was junking the monitor otherwise I gave it a try. It's still working after sitting idle a year. Handy advice on soldering online. use copper wire to **** up the old solder and try not to fry the capacitors or the board. If I did it anyone can.

It's mostly likely a bad capacitor in the main power supply of your monitor. If you're brave enough to dismantle it, look for capacitors that're "crowned", and sometimes even rupture from overheating in such circumstances. You can order replacements from Digi-Key if you can figure out which might be your problem, but I'm not sure I recommend you try this unless you have at least SOME soldering/desoldering skills or a friend who does. You COULD wind up worse off. It's up to you, only YOU know your personal skill level for such tasks. And do I need to say, UNPLUG it before dismantiling? :)

Lcd-17v8 monitor power won't stay on. westinghouse monitor

If the monitor turns on and goes directly to sleep, or it powers on briefly and shows an image then goes black then the monitor is defective. The first is often an I/O panel issue inside of the monitor. The second is typically a lamp failure within the monitor.
A simple test would be to plug a different monitor into your computer or this monitor into another computer. If the monitor doesn't work on another computer or a different monitor works on the same computer then the monitor is the issue.
If the different monitor does not work on the same computer or this monitor does work on a different computer then something on the computer is to be suspected such as a driver issue or a faulty video card.
If you find the monitor is defective then you should dispose of it (assuming it is not under warranty) at a nearby recycling center and purchase a new monitor. I would suggest something by Acer, Samsung, Dell, HP, NEC, or Viewsonic. These brands cost a bit more, but have much better track records.

More likely to be bad caps (bulging top/seal) in the power supply, which when they failed, they may have taken out the inverter fuse on the transistors in the inverter circuits also. See example of failed monitors due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

You either have a hardware problem with your video card. ( may have pop out of socket when you plug in the monitor) or the cable is not allow communication to the monitor. As long as the amber light comes on you know you have power so focud on data cables and hardware.

Westinghouse LCM22W2 shows a display then turns off after half a second

I have the same problem and have traced it down to a potential power supply issue.  I bought mine at Best Buy in '06 and was told today that they will test the power supply for free.  It may range from $50.00 to $100.00 depending on where you can get it.  This does not include labor for those not qualified to work with electronics.  Hope this helps you.

My Westinghouse LCM-19w4 Monitor will not turn on,..it just blinks and nothing

I just repaired my LCM 19W4. My symptoms were a little different; the light was not on or blinking like yours. I replaced two bad capacitors today (220 uF 25V High Temp) So far so good. Bad caps can be easy to identify; they are slightly bulging at the top. Soldering can be very tricky though. But just like plodder said, make sure it's the monitor that's bad and not something else by hooking up a known working monitor first.
