One of the easiest ways to corrupt a camera is to download pics to your computer via USB connection, then disconnect without using the "safely remove hardware" function. Also, when downloading firmware updates, if you do not follow the procedure instructions to the "enth" degree, you can actually end up with a "dead" camera.
