Sorry but I can't get round this either. The reason I thnk is the Start menu and the shortcut links which all add up to 324mb in order to access the software of SIMS 2 and the programes it shares files with.

My problem is that when I put it on external it has flaws in the game such as no concreate. Blured pixals and bits missing.

How do I use my WD hard drive to store files so I can free up space on my laptop hard drive?

Hi:
That's an easy task:
1) Plug your Hd to your laptop and wait until the laptop recognize it as a new drive and assign a new letter to it. If you have a disc use it if your laptop ask for it.
2) Copy all files you want to transfer to the new HD and paste them on it.
That's it.

I installed a second WD My Book, after the first one inexplicably filled up too quickly. Now the second one has inexplicably filled up also. What could be causing this?

The most logical reason for this problem to occur is because you're storing too many files in the ROOT of the external hard disk drive (HDD). The Windows file system can only manage a limited number of files (about 500) in the root of ANY drive. It is better to store those files in a FOLDER on the drive; Windows can manage an infinite number of files IF you store them inside a folder. Let's see if we can resolve this step-by-step:

1. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the external HDD (drive E:, drive F:, drive G:,or whatever letter it has on your system).

2. If the external HDD does NOT have a name (such as "WDMyBook01", or something else easy to remember), RIGHT-CLICK the letter of the external HDD; Windows will give you the option of creating a NAME for the external HDD.

3. Create a name for the external HDD, you can use any combination of letters or numbers, but NOT MORE than 11 characters in length. By creating a distinct name for your external HDD, you'll have an easier time remembering which MyBook drive has certain files on it. Be sure to do this for BOTH external HDDs.

4. Next, create a new folder in the ROOT of the external HDD; give it a simple SHORT name, such as "Folder01" (no quotes).

5. MOVE ALL OF YOUR FILES from the ROOT of the external HDD into the new folder you just created.

6. In the future, put ALL your files into a folder on the external HDD, so you can avoid experiencing this problem again.

7. As you've probably already guessed, it is also a good idea to avoid putting more than 500 files into the root of ANY HDD. SOME files MUST be stored in the root, because that is where Windows expects to see them, but don't add any of YOUR files, the ones you create or download, into the root of the drive.

8. This numerical limit also applies to USB flash drives and other storage devices. You avoid this problem the same way, by creating folders in the root of the drive and storing all files inside a folder.

Good luck with this; let us know if you have any questions.

How do I down load to an external drive and not the main computer

First Solution:-

1. If you have copied a particular game's folder to the external drive, go to Start menu > Programs.
2. Right click on the file name of the game.
3. Click on "Properties"
4. Go to "shortcut" page and change the "Target" path directing the EXE file to the folder in the external drive where you have copy-pasted the your game.
5. Click on "Apply" and "OK".
6. Now, try to start the game, and you should be able to play.

An alternate solution is given below.

In both the cases (internet game / purchased games):-
1. First plug in the external hard drive to your computer.
2. You will have to run the installation file of the game (both purchased and internet download) and select the folder path directing it to the external hard drive.
3. For some games, you may have to uninstall the existing game first to re-install and select the desire folder path (external drive).
4. Games will be installed in external drive and also available in start menu > programs > "your game".

Happy gaming! :)

Hope it helps

My pc has no CD-ROM drive and i cant install sims2

Have a friend copy the CD onto a USB flash drive. Create a folder on the flash drive and name it something like SIMS. Using Windows Explorer, drop and drag the entire CD to the folder you created.

You can then install the program from the flash drive by inserting it in your computer, selecting Start>Run>Browse and direct it to the Setup file in the SIMS folder.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Service packs not cleaning up properly

(sited from http://www.winxptutor.com/randomfolders.htm)

When you install Windows XP SP1, SP1a or SP2, this temporary folder is created on the volume that has the most free space. The folder name contains random characters, and is not always created on the same volume as the Windows folder. For example, this temporary folder may have the following random names:
9470bb12e8a4f3447657236478e41c5
or similar.
352b81d1c4bf3810e28482d9979

This folder is automatically deleted by Windows XP after you install the service pack. However, if the folder is not automatically deleted by Windows XP, you can safely delete this folder.

Please Note:
In most cases, you will receive an Access denied message while accessing or deleting this folder. First, you'll need to Take Ownership of the folder and then delete it safely.

Transferring Files to External Hard drive

I would suggest you find a backup program to do all this for you. I use EZBackItUp (http://www.rdcomp.net/ezbackitup/) a nice freeware program that is easy to set up. Once the files are backed up, though, you should not delete them from your C: drive, as the program will them delete them from the backup too. What you should try to do is move big files (movies, music, etc) to the external drive, which will give you more space on your C: drive. And, as always, make sure you run a good cleaning program (http://www.ccleaner.com for a great one, download and install) to reclaim some disk space.

Good Luck, and I applaud you for having a backup!

Copying sims2 game to an external hard drive

I suggest try playing the game on a different computer. This usually happens when you play the game on a computer that does not meet the games system requirement. Most probably the specifications of this computer is lower than the computer you originally play the game with.
