Sorry but I can't get round this either. The reason I thnk is the Start menu and the shortcut links which all add up to 324mb in order to access the software of SIMS 2 and the programes it shares files with.

My problem is that when I put it on external it has flaws in the game such as no concreate. Blured pixals and bits missing.

Disk wil not format/keep dipaying format fail

hi .. nt sure whether your talking about an external hard disk or somethingelse..

But here goes

In detail

Causes
  • If the hard drive is not setup correctly in the BIOS or is not jumpered correctly, this may cause the BIOS and Windows to detect the drive incorrectly.
  • Viruses or spyware program are capable of conflicting with Windows programs such as the format utility built into Windows.
  • If the partition on the hard drive is corrupt or damaged, this would cause Windows to stop the format process or show an error message.
  • If the computer system does not have the latest BIOS and hardware drivers, and the operating system does not have the latest Service Packs installed, Windows may not address or recognize the drive parameters correctly.
  • You are attempting to format a partition larger than 32GB as FAT32 in Windows 2000, XP, or 2003., win7
  • If the hard drive or data cable is physically damaged or defective.
  • There may be a conflict between the hard drive and another device (on the same IDE cable).
Solution please try

It is recommended to low-level format the hard drive to resolve any partition corruption issues that may be present. For directions on how to low-level format a hard drive

If it's an internal hard drive, please ensure that the latest BIOS is installed for the computer, motherboard, or PCI controller card. BIOS updates can be obtained from the computer, motherboard, or controller card manufacturer. The BIOS should be setup to Auto-Detect the hard drive. If there is a Mode option, this should be setup as LBA, Large, or Auto

  1. Ensure that the latest drivers are installed for the hardware in the computer. Drivers for the hardware should be available from the respective hardware manufacturers.
If this occurs on an external hard drive, connect the drive to another USB of FireWire port on the computer. You can also connect the hard drive to another computer system to perform the format. This issue may be caused by attempting to reformat a FAT32 partition as NTFS without deleting the partition first. You will need to repartition and reformat the hard drive

hope this helps you out

Hello

Okay , so there are some steps to figure out what is wrong with your external.

Firstly , if your computer makes a sound when you plug in your external , go to Start-Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Computer Management-Disk Management , and see if your external drive is listed here with your local drives. If it is listed , right click on the drive and change the drive letter to make it appear in "my computer".

If your drive does not make a connection sound when connecting to your computer and also does not show up , please follow the next step.

Remove the hard drive from the casing if possible and install it in your computer case or another external case.If the drive works , the problem is with the casing and you can ignore the drive.

Now , if the problem is with the casing , there are still 3 possibilities.

  1. The USB cable between the drive and the computer may be damaged.
  2. The circuit board which connects your drive to the interface of the external may be blown.
  3. The power supply (if applicable) may have a blown transformer.
The latter is the easiest to diagnose , does your external light up at all when you plug in the power? If not , then this is probably your problem. On the bottom of the adapter is a label which you will be able to use to have a new adapter made at your local electronics shop and this will cost about $30 max. They will also be able to test the adapter with a clamp meter to see if this is really the problem and this should be free.

The second component you want to test is the USB cable. If you have a printer , swop out the cables and see if your printer functions normally. Most externals use the same connector so you should be able to test it in this manner. If the cable works go on to the last step. If the cable is defective , replace it with a new one which you can find for about $10 at most electronics and chain stores.

The last component to test is the circuit board. This is a bit of a grey zone as you probably won't be able to spot the blown component unless it failed really badly. With the casing already opened , locate the external's circuit board and check to see if you have any blackened components or fluids leaking from some components. If all the other components of the external worked perfectly , then this is the faulty part. It is not really economical to replace the circuit as most of the time it is out of production by the time you need to replace it and it still costs a lot even if it is available so if your drive is working perfectly when connected via sata or IDE on your computer , the best is to buy a new casing and place your old drive in the new casing.

A casing costs about $50 and you could get it at most tech shops and big chain stores like Best Buy.

I hope this solves your problem and please reply if you need more help.

Kind Regards
Andrea

I purchased an ASUS EVTERNAL DRIVE and installed on my computer but i don't know how to make it burn a cd?

Put a blank CD in and then drag the files from any folder into the CD drive folder.

If that does not do what you need then buy an advanced CD writing software such as Nero or Roxio.

Open Windows Help and Support, look up "write cd" for more details.

If this helps please vote for my solution.

I have an enclosure. The disk spins but won't register on the computer. Thinking there's something wrong with the electronics.

Hello,

First of all make sure that the USB port that you are using to connect it to your PC is a USB 2.0 port, and not USB 1.0.

Also if it came with an external power, connect it to the external power before putting on your PC.

This is because the voltage supplied by USB 1.0 is lower than that of USB 2.0 and therefore might not be enough to power up your USB Drive.

After making sure about this, power up your system, and plug the external drive, then Right-Click on my computer icon, select manage, then go to Disk Management Option.

On the Disk management option Page you should see ALL the drives installed on your system, including the hidden ones, so what you will just do is, try and locate the one representing your external drive, and right click on it. then select "Change Drive letter and Paths", and give the drive any new, unique letter (i.e alphabet) different from the ones already on your system, and click on OK.

This should make your external Drive to be detected automatically.

Hope this helps you out.
Goodluck!

I have a pny 4 gb mini attachi usb 2.0 drive. i need to store my photos and files off a laptop. how do i begin and what do i do.?

Connect your Pny attachi to USB port on your laptop using USB cabel available with your attachi, your laptop will detect the external device automatically and or it might also ask you to install drivers which you can install using CD available with Pny, once you have done you can easily transfer and share anything you want.

Two questions for ya:

A) When you say USB drive, do you mean an external CDROM, DVDROM, or mechanical HARD DRIVE or do you mean a FLASH DRIVE? (see below)

B) When you say "NOT WORKING" do you mean that when you plug it into ANY USB port, you get an error tone; you don't get any response; you see the drivers being loaded, but no drive appears; you see the drive appear, but no files are listed on the drive; or something else?

From these two questions, we will be much more able to help.

NOTE:
External devices that have mechanical moving parts, like CD and DVD drives often require external power sources in order for the drive to function. Even external hard drives can require a separate power source. This is because the small amount of electricity provided by the USB port is not enough to power the motors inside these external devices.

Another type of external storage medium is called a "Flash Drive". It is like a hard drive in so much as it stores data and appears in your explorer/Finder window like a hard drive. However, there are no moving parts, so it never requires an external power source.
